Some photos I took while on an evening walk around my neighborhood. Some comparisons based on different modes/settings.
These first three are full auto using PHOTO mode in the app.
This one is full manual. I tried to select the best SS/ISO settings, but still get terrible dynamic range. This is just with DRO turned on, but not HDR. Shooting in full manual and outputting as JPEG gives you the HDR option, but not if you want to shoot RAW or RAW+JPEG. This has been the case since the 1m8 and I guess it hasn't been enabled even now.
This one is full auto with HDR turned on. Much better dynamic range.
This is shot using the 48mp mode.
Shot using full manual from across the avenue.
Shot using full manual using telephoto lens from across the avenue.

Thanks guys!
Phone feels good so far after one night of use. Like you @goldenface, I set the battery care to 90% but it charged right through it. Weird. I then just set it to auto and will probably leave it at that. That's what I did with my 1m2 and it did pretty well.
I am contemplating whether I want to go ahead and try unlocking the bootloader/rooting to enable 5G since doing that will basically do a factory reset. I might as well do that before I get everything set up and customized further. I haven't gone through the whole process of flashing, rooting, etc since the my X10, so it's been quite awhile. May look into it this weekend but it makes me nervous about bricking my very expensive phone.
I am trying to get to know the new camera app. There is no telephoto macro mode anymore, correct? You simply select the 140mm and that's that?
I do enjoy the framed AI video stuff. That feature is nice and something I will take advantage of.
@goldenface thanks for the tip. The stand feels pretty sturdy to me so far. Of course, it does feel a bit like the typical case stand that can pop out with enough pressure. So I'll be careful to keep an eye on that.
It's unfortunate Sony doesn't provide better guides/tutorials to use the camera app. All I could find was last year's video tutorial, which is sufficient, I suppose. But there are differences this year and they should be addressed, I think.
My biggest complaint is lack of HDR in many modes and when selecting RAW+JPEG output. Photos have been very sharp though, so that is nice.
Here are some pics for you Maratonmannen. Taken with my old 1m2 which has seen better days.

Yes. No more telemacro mode. Only focus and take photo for the 140mm (or 5.8 times zoom). Minimal focusing distance around 15cm away, so magnification will not be comparable with 1VI or 1VII, but image quality will be better due to bigger sensor. Glad you enjoy your phone! Welcome and have fun! Also remember to always enable ultra HDR on for better HDR.
I do miss telemacro of 1VII though

@tai - That's what I'm talkin about!! I was hoping for a very good macro, but I guess I will have to make do with the 140mm. That's a bit sad, I must say.
Gorgeous photos.
Ultra HDR is disabled when selecting RAW or RAW+JPEG. I can understand why it is not enabled for RAW, but it should be enabled for RAW+JPEG and process the JPG file.
Ideally, I would love for Sony to add automatic bracketing to the camera app when using full manual and shooting in RAW. That would be amazing! I know it won't happen though.
@Maratonmannen yep. Thanks! Still getting used to this camera so I can take the photo I want quickly, but I'm liking it so far.

Great photos, especially the first one. I've stayed in that area a couple of times, Brings back some good memories.
@tai That macro photo is just amazing. Would you not be able to achieve the same with the 1 m8?

Thanks!
Here are a few other photos while I was out and about yesterday. All taken in 48mp mode and otherwise unedited.

The telemacro Lens of 1Vii can go as close as 4cm and magnified from 120mm till 360mm, but I usually zoom in till less than 170mm as it will affect photo quality. As for the 1VIII, I can go closest 15cm and have not tried 17.5x zoom yet , I stopped at 5.8 x for the zoom. This distance sure lose out to the VII in terms of magnification. Shall try longer focal lengths till max out and see the difference in quality 🤣🤣
But as for now the 1/1.56" Lens sure does take great macro!

When I couldn't upload photos to post in a thread, I assumed all the uploading features had been disabled.
I'll take a look at the gallery page and post stuff there now and then. Thanks for letting me know!
