I think I've come across another bug (although not major) with the R2L firmware. For some very odd reason the red LED light which is supposed to start flashing when the battery is almost empty is actually coming on at half-empty battery (and once even on full battery!). This is the second time it's happened to me, and the problem fixes itself if I turn the power off and then on again. Although this is nothing major, I'm just a bit curious how this problem has appeared in the R2L when I never experienced it on the R2A (which I had for 2 months)....hmmm....me thinks SE needs to get their act together...

Just for records, I am almost 100% sure that R2L does not improve the actual battery life over R2A, rather the indicator is more accurate as opposed to draining very slowly once indicator reached halfway. The only improvements will be noticed by people who use Infra-red or Bluetooth and who are too lazy or forgetful to switch off these devices once finished...

OK, so I bought a DSS-25 which was delivered today... Wasn't expecting it to a bulk-pack version with no drivers/software or information, but it didn't take too long to figure it out and get it up and running.

I used the File Manager to check I had stable connectivity (on my Laptop) after having some headaches earlier on my Desktop...
Finally hit the SE Online Update Service website and got the page in the attached picture! DOH!

It has given me pause for thought though, as I've read some more historic posts about the Firmwares... Could anyone help me out with some queries?...

i) I currently have R2C - I have no major complaints with the phone apart from maybe the lack of call times for the missed calls, and perhaps one or two other smaller things - I've read that R2L Firmware has a few little bugs, would you guys say it is more or less buggy on-the-whole than the R2C release? Has anyone made the hop? If so, are you glad, or would you prefer to go back if you could?

ii) I gather the phone won't lose any of its Orange branding... Has anyone upgraded an Orange UK K700i from R2C to R2L? Are you happy? Is the phone branding different in any way at all?

Thanks and regards

Rob.

Ok.. I have read all the posts in this thread and others related to R2AA.

I had flashed my phone today to R2AA from R2L today morning and it did not take me long to realise that R2AA has some bugs which could be more serious than the previous firmware releases.

1. some mp3 ringtones become protected and cannot be deleted. In addition, the file size becomes 0 kb. 2 of my ringtones were affected like this.

2. In the "More" link where there is an option for turning infrared on for 10 minutes, infrared is on for unlimited duration. Mine went on for more than 30 minutes till i switched IR off.

3. File Manager in Sony Ericsson PC suite is not compatible with Release R2AA. it just refuses to detect the phone. I had to rely on free file managers like fma.

SO stick on to R2L.

I enquired whether i can rollback to the previous firmware version and they have replied in the negative.

Will let u know if anything else comes up. Anyway i am going back tomorrow to SE.. nice ppl at the SE service centre here..

(factionone) Answer to question asked about Mp3 ring tones on orange
Vodafone was the only netowrk to block mp3's playing as a ringtone.

Also your warranty is not void even when you use the upgrade of the internet (SE only). The warranty is only void if you change or modify the software in any way.

Going from R2c to R2l is a big improvement and i would recomend it to any Orange users and to any other K700i users on any network. I have updated quite a few freinds and my self on Orange. The software is very good, not perfect but alot better. Hugh battery and bluetooth improvements

Orang Branding is no different what so ever. You still have the Orange icons and the orange theme and folders

Hope this helps

@scorpio, welcome here. You cannot roll back to a previous fw. I heard they pulled back r2aa. How did you get it? My service point is still on r2l. This message was posted from a K500

@RedDwarf2002

The battery life does increase if you upgrade from R2A to R2L. The power consumption is lower on R2L because of certain tweaking in the firmware. Backlight behavior being one of them.

As for the flashing LED, mine started flashing when the battery level is low. However, the LED does not seem to stop flashing even after recharging it.
