i dont know what you expect of the k800 but the photos look like they are of a concert in near darkness/poor lighting.the 2nd one is very blocky as if a zoom shot.ive used the noiseware software and while its good at reducing noise it also smoothes out features such as lines on faces and hair etc and makes the pics artificial looking.if you want perfect pics then you cant go wrong with a decent digi camera.

no, the second pic is not digitally zoomed into the object, its exactly the same pic as the 1st, only the 1st pic is resized by esato photo service. the second pic is 'as is' from the k800 just cropped. it clearly shows the same effect as using a smooth-out filter as the noiseware but only worse.

I think it's vital we don't forget that this is after all simply a mobile phone with a camera and the Cybershot name for marketing purposes, and nothing more. If you want something which can take perfect photos, then buy a real digital camera.

yeah right, don't forget it does cost a decent digital camera + "phone only" cellular! besides, its sonyericsson marketing trying to tell people that its as good as its camera! what i see is that it doesn't offer much improvement over its K750, instead it only uses some cheap method to try to deceive comsumers. you can keep your I-bought-what-its-not-but-i-forgive-so-i'm-nicer attitude but what i'm saying it that if the k800i take out its software filter its cmos camera will just take photo with outcome the same as the k750i but now its worse cause the filter is not working most of the time, and its not worth the upgrade to this K800i.

For the last time (I hope) - the 3mp sensor in this phone is at least as good, and most likely better than other 3mp Digicam sensors on the market, considering the fact that Sony has gotten in the market of Professional D-SLR cameras and are actually manufacturing their own sensors.

When making statements like, this phone is only a phone with a camera on it, and if you want good pix get a real digi-cam, you should really consider that you are not comparing apples to apples. Modern digicams are 5 and more megapixels with a larger (physically) sensor which is capable of pics wit less noise (if you want to read about sensor size and noise - go to dpreview.com) As a 3mp camera, the K800/K790 perform at least on par with other 3mp Digicams, with the addition of some features such as the anti-shake and the best shot selector.

oh come on, who's trying to compare it with a D-SLR, i'm not even trying to compare it with my old Fujipix 3megapix s5000 or my 5 years old 2megapix Nikon 750, its absolutly not on par with those digital camera, way off and cannot compare, you either not own a K800 or a 3m camera. I'm trying to compare it with my K750i! what i hate is that it secretly, forcefully applying the smooth-out software filter on all photos which makes details in the picture like washed out almost all of the time (except bright condition like outdoor, and even so, if details are present you will see the smooting out effect!) and that its being marketed as Cyber-shot!!! ...Oh, but its good for taking landscape cause it'll smooth out the water, sand, grass, etc and make your picture look like a MONET, don't trust me, check out the K800 photos on the 'Phone Photos' section....

Or

£19 a month contract with the handset free.

boompang, it isn't that bad! I'll go along with a lot of what you say, and hope that firmware will fix the softening problem, but in good light the pictures are excellent.

I have a 3.2 megapixel camera (Optio 330) that I will get around to comparing with soon. I'm sure the Pentax will win, but I am not taking that with me every day, nor the 4MP Casio I have, or the 16MP Fuji SLR. The K800 is my current phone and it is always with me, and BestPic has proven itself as one of the best features you can ask for in a camera. The flash is still a bit hit and miss (again, firmware hopefully) but low light shots can always be hit and miss. Maybe the latest generation digital cameras with incredible low light performance at high speeds will change that, but I am not yet expecting that from a phone.

By and large, you would be happy with the quality of the pics.. including the ones that you've posted. What do most people do with these pics anyway? Print them at A4? Rarely. Look at them at 100% on their 1280x1024 screens? Rarely (more like view them at a scaled down size). Show them on TV? Well, even if you had an HDMI output you don't need the resolution of these images!

Yes ive read this in many reviews that the speaker output of the K790/800 is pretty low. So i would like to confirm this from all users of these fone, how much is the external speaker volume(max) in terms of normal music playing, incoming calls, sms as compared to another model....say a W800?
