Anyone done any tests with the new firmware and the 3.10 camera driver ?? Soposedly it should have improved pictures under non optimal lightingconditions.

Heres a couple of pictures Ive taken indoor with only flourescent light (and the new 3.10 cameradriver) - I actually think they have improved under difficulty indoor conditions with less noise than I remember earlier pictures had.

yes these are raw pictures - the first ones from the laundry place was taken with plenty indoor light - but still its only flourescent light and I definately see some inprovement there. The last ones from the room had rather low light (the lamp in the back was only lightsource) and they still came out with less noise than usual.

If light is to low - you still get pictures like the one you showed - nothing will change that but more light. There may be small improvements with the new firmware with cameradriver 3.10 but I wouldent count on any big changes under very low light conditions. You allways need a certain amount of light to take reasonable pictures, its a law of nature

the 3.10 cameradriver is part of the newest firmware R2AE033 - you can only get it updated at a servicecentre.

I recommend getting the phones updated to this firmware - there are other nice improvements, like batteryimprovements, phonebook search on the first 4 letters and faster smoother menu than with firmware R2L

Thanks, I think this is a major improvement. I hope R2AE will be available online.

@dxcore - If there's too much noise, use a noise reduction filter such as the one supplied by Neat Image. Note that such applications will not improve a picture that has been badly taken - the source must be in a pretty good condition.

As the processing power of CPU's within phones increases, the phones will perform this task automatically. Many digital cameras "secretly" perform this operation.

Cheers!

To be honest, i cant see much difference except for less noise on the darkest of pictures.

Yep, the newer camera driver probably reduces noise by a small degree via a noise filter. Heavy duty noise reduction probably won't be possible with the K700's puny central processing unit. If it did, the phone would appear to freeze for an unreasonable amount of time!

Cheers!
