First off Sony Expected to sell about 10 million xperias that quarter.
Second the pc market is on the decline so it is a good move selling the Vaio brand as it has been in loss for several years.
Third if you look at the financial statements apart from the Pc business and Tv Sony seems to be doing well once these restructuring costs are over with and the pc division is sold Sony will be in profit again most likely the only question mark is the Tv division they have to get that into profitability again.
Kaz is doing the right thing Sony can't go on bleeding cash Sony needs to focus on certain products only. You want Sony to survive this has to be done. I don't see pc sales increasing anytime soon. Why do you think Companies like Acer and Asus are in the Mobile market also now, why do you think Lenovo bought Moto? That is the future that is the direction that the world is heading most people don't need a pc they just use the pc to connect to the internet watch youtube and surf fb might as well do it on the go on a mobile device.

Sorry about the rant .

TOKYO (AP) — Sony is bouncing back from losses, posting a 27 billion yen ($266 million) profit for the fiscal third quarter, helped by a weak yen and better sales. Sony also announced it's trying to sell its troubled personal computer business.

The Japanese electronics maker said Thursday the latest results were helped by a favorable exchange rate, improved sales, especially of its smartphones, and the launch of the PlayStation 4 video-game console.

Tokyo-based Sony Corp. suffered a loss of 10.8 billion yen in the October-December quarter of 2012.
Sony reported a 24 percent surge in quarterly sales to 2.41 trillion yen ($23.8 billion).

It says it's talking with Japan Industrial Partners to sell its Vaio PC business, aiming to reach an agreement by the end of March.

Anyway, the whole fiscal year 2014 is expect to be in red.

I never understood the hype around Kaz or most CEOs brought in to a company that's in a downward spiral, it's like people expect them to do what Steve Jobs did with Apple in the early '00s.

Forget everything else lets just talk about XPERIA 10millon vs 10.7 million sales this quarter.
SERIOUSLY WTF just 0.7 million in extra sales are you kidding me cant you even beat LG ??
Everybody on this earth knows how important MOBILE & TABLET business is and how much profits these devices bring and yet here SONY is sleeping and day dreaming.
KAZ is a wrong CEO.I have no hopes in Sony anymore.

Lol they are called expectations for a reason you can't go out and say oh randomly 20 million this quarter. Anyway Lg counts the Nexus too btw also Sony expects to sell 50 million in the total of FY14 that seems achievable

Ok guys, have fun! See you round!

40 million Xperia smartphones in the year, without any major presence in the US, not good enough for you? Hahaha

Selling the Vaio, a loss making division, is a bad thing?
Hahaha

It takes balls to cut dead weight and I'm glad Kaz finally decided to make the necessary cuts. Sony needs to streamline and I'm glad they're finally doing just that.

I'm glad you guys aren't investors or senior executives.
