Yeah, I think that the proposed budget limitations planned for F1 in 2010 could lure less-affluent teams back into the sport, or certainly encourage the smaller teams to carry on.
I'm sure it'll help the situation a fair bit; maybe similar financial restrictions in other realms of motorsport will be introduced in the year/s ahead to ensure the survival of these mega-expensive motorsport series around the world.
We can just hope. Maybe ktm will introduce a electric f1 car just like they hve made a electric dirt bike. Without the engine, petrol tank, gear box and so on. It makes the bike so much lighter. But it doesnt hve the oommfff that a petrol engine has. Maybe 1day they'll figure it out

@ Kyle:
I think we'll be seeing more and more forms of electrical energy being used in all arenas.
My other hobby is designing and flying my own radio controlled aircraft and 10 years ago, electric motors and heavy, limited battery cells made elecric flight a bit of a novelty. Nowadays, with the explosion of technology in lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries, and the massive range of electric motors, gear drives and MosFet speed controllers and circuitry around, they're now capable of powering much larger, fully aerobatic aircraft. There's so many options out there now that one is absolutely spoilt for choice.
Absolutely amazing what they can ahieve now.

It's been quite a while since you mentioned model planes, Wanqa. Been working on any new projects recently? Maybe we'll see Von Richthofen taking to English skies sometime soon?

@ Kryptik:
LOL, das Red Baron uber Tommy territory ist tempting, but I haven't built another own-design for nearly 2 years now. The biking stuff has taken up a lot of my spare time and as the Winter makes it less conducive to ride around for fun, methinks this'll be ideal time to design n' build a few new r/c planes.
Most of the planes I've designed and flown so far are 1.5m in wingspan and have 8cc 4-strokes powering them, as opposed to the cheaper, noisier, higher pitched 2 stroke engines. I've actually got a 2m wingspan design planned; depending on the crucial all-up weight, I'll probably be fitting a 26cc petrol engine to it, as opposed to the glow 4-stroke engines of similar capacity.
My very first own-design was actually when I was a student in PE. It was a 2-channel, 1.5m glider that actually flew reasonably well. The only modification that I had to make to it was increase the fin/rudder and tailplane/elevator area by another inch in width each to stabilise it a bit more ie. cancel out some slight fuselage 'fishtailing' movements in certain attitudes.
I used to check out the guys flying RC 'slope soarers' (gliders that use the updraft winds on slopes) around Maitland River Mouth, as well as the thermal gliders being launched from winches by the flats near Charlo, if memory serves me correctly. (the latter being where the aforementioned glider first took to the air).
I've got 3 own-design planes at the moment, all fly well and I've only had one 'abrupt' landing with one of them, which required a bit of reinforcing of the undercarriage area. 5-minute epoxy, strip of plywood and triangulated balsa gussetting, et voila.
I wouldn't call myself a very accomplished aerobatic pilot though; I just don't practise enough at this stage and I'm rather hesitant with too many risky manoeuvres with my own-designs; but we'll see how I do and progress when I get these newer designs airborne.

@ JC: I'm planning to get up pretty early tomorrow and watch proceedings. Oz still favour their chances. To think that SA has never ever won a test series there, to date, but it's high time that the Proteas buck that trend. Good luck to 'em.
