I dont really think that there is going to be much innovation now when it comes to phones anyway. A big innovation was pictures then video then higher mega pixels. We have tv on our phones now. It doesnt leave a lot left. Look at tv's there Isnt much innovation left there for a while. 1080p is the highest around i believe. Someone can correct if i'm wrong about that. So thats what i think about innovation.
No innovation with phones? Are you high?
*Cellphones liberated us from being in a static location to make, end, continue conversations with those of us we cannot see.
*Cellphones enabled us to make that emergency 911 call where a payphone is just too far away and nobody with a house near the scene.
* Cellphones enabled us to send or receive a quick message without saying a word.
*Cellphones, enabled us to make a data connection to the internet or corporate server (even an SSH/SSL/VPN) to acquire or upload data.
( a funny here is ... in some countries Cellphones allow us NOT to be hassled by telemarketers - this is PURE innovation hehe - as listing of cellphone lines is illegal.
*Cellphones now allow us a much faster connection in some countries or equal to Cable Internet/DSL connections; while still being mobile.
*Cellphones allow us to listen to music, while mobile almost to the point that a dedicated music player is obsolete.
*Cellphones allow us to take, share, save & carry photos of those precious moments, quick blunders, even capture 1st hand initial moments of a battle, war, terrorism, racism, hatred, thanks, crushes, or even love!
*Cellphones allow us to synchronize PIM & Email, even update sales, and other corporate information SECURELY!
* Cellphones with software now allow us to intiate FTP download/upload connections.
* Cellphones allow us to plan, organize, schedule our days and future appointments, reminders, notes, track tasks.
*Cellphones allow us to make video calls and in some countries on even fewer networks leave a VIDEO voicemail; even view it.
All this is not innovative? Then you take a lot for granted. Or you're too young to remember what it was like to see a payphone at every corner, even having to run down the block to make a call. Or have someone listen and even mock you while you make that late night call to your girrrrlfrieeeeend; when hanging out with the boys and ran to call.
Future innovations that is just around the corner....
Able to compose 3D photos in highquality with a BT peripheral -or- via stylus. The ability to use your mobile smartphone as a computer in just about every sense of the word. How?
With TV-OUT have 1080i video broadcasted on a TV.
With storage of memory cards in 4GB already on the market and soon to reach 16-32GB with incredibly and sufficiently fast interconnections; we'll be able to store multiple photos, documents, ppt presentations, corporate data db's or spreadsheets.
With MS or even Symbian OS soon to be Symmetric Multi-Threaded, and with dual-core mobile cpus (running incredibly efficiently) we'll be able to run FTP servers mobile (already software for PPC devices is 4yrs old now). Just think about what the average 80% of users do with their PC's? I don't have to spell it out ... Nokia; although many of the styling of their phones is always somewhat ok, yet still manage to screw it up; they're are the right path with teh slogan "its what computers have become". Somehow I think Microsoft with the Windows Mobile Edition has lost their focus for some time now.

Ah I understand. You could be right. But the TV or the screen itself still gets innovative or evolved. I think the phone will do the same. even if wearing it on the wrist isn't the answer
I think that holographic single person at any angle display may one day be thing of the future, but until then I still cannot patiently fidget for the K850i!

3-4 years and your LCD TV will be out of date.. Organic Light Emitting Diode TVs are on the way...

Yeah. Currently you have to shell out GBP 850 for a puny 11 inch screen . . . (Don't bother drilling holes for the wall mounting. Just use some blu-tack

the n95 was the 1st proper mainstream phone to have wi-fi and gps (by proper i mean its a phone, not a pda type such as palms/xda's etc).
that's a joke. What's non-mainstream about xda's?? HTC has a massive smartphone marketshare, and they have a touchscreen, something it's taking Nokia years to get their head around. HTC has had wifi for years ahead of N95, and it had SD-Wifi even more years earlier. They have had GPS for a while before N95 too.
these are 2 massive features, and id call that pretty innovative. on top of that it had a 5mp cam which was also a 1st, and a nice big screen. and hsdpa (altho im sure it wasn't the 1st to have this).
overall the N95 is innovative, not because of the features it has, but because of it's abundance of features. But each feature in itself is not that innovative. The only truly innovative feature of the N95 is it's 5MP camera, and due to the lowsy compression Nokia employ, because of the dirt cheap cmos sensor they use, the picture quality destroys any hope of claiming the N95 5MP camera as innovative.
now let me ask u a question, what is innovative about K850?
I never claimed K850 was innovative. I was disagreeing with your statement that the N95 Camera made the N95 innovative. However in my view the K series line IS innovative for consistantly bringing out the best cmos digicam available in a camera phone. Every single release of a K series model has brought the best cmos based camera available in a phone to the market. That to me is innovation.
ps i no they different companies, obviously i was talkin bout sony ericsson, just couldnt b bothered to write it in full, im sure most ppl have somethin better 2 do then 'correct' me on such a silly point.
then why not use "SE"? fair nuff, I get that you didn't mean "sony", but I still think you should say what you mean. There is enough confusion as it is over SE/Sony.
As i clearly said 'mainstream phone', by that i mean a PHONE, not a PDA/ORGANISER/SMARTPHONE, which an XDA, HTC etc is. they are basically PDA's with the ability to make phone calls/txts etc. i know these devices have had those features in for a long time, but 'normal' phones haven't. i wouldnt buy a smartphone as i don't want a PDA, i want a proper phone but which has some PDA features. XDA's, HTC's etc are a different segment of the market. they normally come under the 'smart phone' bracket. if u look in most shops, the N95 doesn't fall under this heading. N95 is a PHONE phone, not a pda/smartphone which is what a HTC/XDA is. so i am correct in saying the N95 was the 1st 'proper' PHONE phone (that isn't a pda) to have these features.
i didnt say n95 was innovative just cos of the 5mp camera, but it was the 1st mainstream phone to have a 5mp camera, so actually that is innovative. whether the pic quality is good or not is another matter, but the fact is it was better then anything else on the market b4 the k850i came out. and lets face it, we can hardly compare it to the k850i since se have had an extra 9 months or so over nokia to develop the cam so would be an unfair comparison.
bottom line is, why have se not brought out a phone to match n95? theres obviously a massive demand for it. i work in a phone shop so am better qualified them most to comment on this: many ppl buy the n95, that would never buy a smartphone such as xda/htc etc. thats b'cos as i mentioned earlier, the n95 is a PHONE, not a PDA. and thats what people want. not many people want a smartphone, thats why sales of smartphones compared to normal phones is so low.
