Ok, finally took possession of the K600(beta model). Will soon be posting a review. Thus far it feels better than the V800. This message was posted from a K700i

The much talk of and anticipated Motorola iTunes phone is due very shortly in South Africa. Another model will be launched early 2006 with a scrolly wheel (like the iPod has). Compared with the Sony Ericsson W800i which is shipped with 512MB, the iTunes first version will only be shipped with 128MB (Transflash card). Watch this space for comparisons - when I write about both handsets.

Key Features:
iTunes playback
Video capture and playback
3D Stereo Sound
Bluetooth
Removable Memory slot (128 MB inbox)
Large, active color display (176 x 220, 262K TFT)
Integrated digital Camera (VGA quality) w/ camera light
Enhanced Games w/ Vibration
22 KHz enhanced polyphonic speakers w/ vibration, MP3 and MIDI ringers, and full MP3 music listening with CD Quality Sound
Cool high tech Candy Bar design
Rhythm Lights
PIM functionality with Picture Caller ID
Multi-Media Messaging (MMS)
FOTA

The next version - insider info points to this one being launched early 2006.

MY K750i experience:

There aren't many phones that have over the past eight years impressed me. In fact, there are few. The Ericsson T28 impressed with its tiny, in fact miniscule, size yet delivered more than the average phone. The Nokia 8310 impressed for the same reason, but boasted impressive graphics, ingenious voice handling, and will forget its beautiful white glowing display. The Nokia 3650 impressed because it delivered Nokia's first "expandable" memory coupled with a rather different phone interface that actually worked better than the conventional keypad. Sadly, consumers never responded well to the phone's uniqueness and it for conventional keypads. Typical of the average consumer - but in this world it's the consumer that dictates.

There have been others like the Sony Ericsson P900i, the Motorola RAZR, the Sony Ericsson S700i with its Cyber-Shot 1.3 megapixel digital camera. This little baby was designed to be both a phone and a digital camera - an idea that has sadly again been lost on the average twit consumer who moans about the phone's bulkiness yet forgets that when held like a camera, it all makes perfect sense. The S700i still boasts the best small screen of any cellphone yet launched and to be launched in the months to come.

The Sony Ericsson K750i is very conventional - with two very striking exceptions: it's 2 megapixel camera and its brilliant music player. A few small other features like a radio with RDS (shows the station name) and AF (tracks the station you're listening to), stereo earplugs ... a few small features that help to make this phone truly exceptional.

So I ask you... why do you bother with lesser devices when Sony Ericsson so clearly delivers the exceptional? I ask you this... why? Consumers are creatures of habit and are unwilling to venture and try something new. They sing the same tune and many manufacturers basically cater for this - give them what they want and they'll be happy.

I asked my colleague who is the proud owner of a new D500 - Do you have a radio? The response was a rather blank look... she handed me the phone and asked me to look if there was one. There wasn't. A simple little feature... that helps to keep me informed about my world... for free. At 5H30am each morning I gym... with K750i in my pocket holding five CDs... it's fun and really lekker to gym with music pumping in my ears... at 7H10am I capture a Cape Town sunrise from my office window and celebrate life with my friends around the globe - Bluetoothing the high res image to my PowerBook and emailing it to my peeps. I SMS from my PowerBook... it's really nice and it's cool to receive the response on my PowerBook's display.

Small things - but things that make my day an enjoyable day. Lastly, I go to bed without setting my alarm because my K750i has a recurring alarm. I will wake to either the Crazy Frog if I'm in the mood, or to the radio playing on my cellphone. That's life... it's not 3G but it makes me happy. I'll be patient with 3G. Somethings in life are just better matured... 3G = patchy reception, dropped calls, no one to video call, shit battery life... I like my K750i. Give me Sony Ericsson any day.

A question for all SE P910i owners in SA (or anyone else who's able to answer...):

Does anyone know if it is possible to make use of the Vodacom blackberry service using the Blackberry application that has been made for the P910i?

Not yet but I think that it will happen very soon. For now there is another: visit http://www.dataviz.com/products/roadsync/uiq/index.html for more info on RoadSync.

FROM THE SITE:

RoadSync allows you to manage your corporate Outlook inbox, edit and send attachments, accept meetings and lookup key contacts all from your Sony Ericsson P900 or P910 smartphone. You can even send and receive Word, Excel and PowerPoint attachments via Documents To Go as well as download and open other common attachments like digital pictures, movies and mp3s. Plus, since your handheld is truly in sync with the corporate server, all updates made while on the go will be automatically reflected when you open Outlook on your desktop. With RoadSync, you can now stay connected and be more productive no matter where the day takes you.

Unlike other solutions, RoadSync is based on the Exchange ActiveSync protocol licensed directly from Microsoft which provides secure, wireless and direct synchronization with Exchange 2003. This new technology is optimized for mobile devices and provides an easy to implement and low-cost corporate e-mail solution without the typical service fees, middleware servers or need to keep a desktop computer running. So although RoadSync may require a quick conversation with your IT department, setup and installation is simply a matter of enabling mobile privileges on the server and entering a few settings on the device. Its fast, easy and reliable, so download a free fully functional technology preview version today (http://www.dataviz.com/eforms/betaprograms/roadsync/rs_start.html).

Exactly the point I've been making to all the early adopters. Bumped into a friend from high school who just happened to work at Vodacom in client services and he said they would only have widespread coverage towards the end of the year.

Right now I'm enjoying the K600i more than the 3G experience because there is no experience to speak of with the patchy coverage. BTW, MTN ain't much better either...connected to wap from my gf's apartment and speeds were nice and fast, once I got to my neighbourhood it was back to GPRS albeit faster than Vodacom's GPRS.

Damn... Mr.Singe sans fil, you bring tears to my eyes wth that narrative... Not being facetious, i genuinely feel what you're saying. You're sorely tempting me to switch allegiance to SE... And it's what so many ppl miss out on- that their mobiles are more than just telephones... Nice one, bro This message was posted from a Nokia

Thank you gentlemen - yes I do love my Sony Ericsson but I love GSM technology more and my elegance is to the technology first before any one brand. Today I've also posted the Motorola iTunes phone - another company that people should look for their inspirational designs.
