Bump!
Does anyone know the answer to tempsonyfreak's Mozilla question? I've never played around with proxies much, any help would be much appreciated here

Further to my previous query about a Mac mini sized PC, it appears that
Evesham Micros/Technologies (whatever they're called these days) in my home town have the exclusive deal to market these:
which is a similar size to the Mac mini:
The only big difference is the price, Evesham want
£699 for it (?) whereas a Mac mini starts at just
£359 almost half the cost!!! (It's not clear whether a monitor, mouse & keyboard are included with the PC, but even adding that to the Mac minis cost it would still be over £150 cheaper!)
Here's the news at

JoolsG4 is your man for macs, but the date problem is almost certainly caused by a dead or dying CMOS battery. They're very cheap and very easy to replace, you can buy them from just about any hardware store such as Wilkinsons etc.

@Dicky:
As a temporary measure just enter the correct date and time in System Preferences > Date & Time, and leave the PowerBook plugged-in while you use it, install stuff etc.
Then have a look here:
PowerBook: Testing Backup Battery
You need to find out whether its a rechargable internal backup battery or not. If you're not comfortable fiddling with your PowerBook, just visit a nearby Apple Service Centre.
@Cycovision: I'm not intending to hijack your PC Help thread. Think we might need a Mac Help thread!!

go to
'settings'
'control panel'
'sounds'
then in the scheme bar - choose 'no sounds'
Job done! but you lose other sounds such as windows start up etc.....
