The Guardian
It began innocuously enough. Last year the Danish writer Kare Bluitgen had been searching for someone who could illustrate his children's book about the life of the prophet Muhammad. It soon became clear, however, that nobody wanted the job, through fear of antagonising Muslim feelings about images of Muhammad.
One artist turned down the commission on the grounds that he didn't want to suffer the same grisly fate as Theo van Gogh, the Dutch film-maker stabbed to death by an Islamist fanatic. Two others also declined. "They were worried," Mr Bluitgen said, adding: "Eventually someone agreed to do it anonymously."
What would this guy really know about our Prophet in the first place...

althouh the real point is denmark didn't start it. in fact in very real terms the newspaper didn't either (read the guardian article).

i keep reading about how non muslims should have respect for muslims and understand there religion and beilefs ( which i fully agree with|). what i havent read yet is muslims having respect for non muslims beliefs and culture i get the impression that many muslims dont understand western culture and surely its a two way street.
i wanted to opick up on something written earlier that been that islam hasnt changed in 1400 years. that maybe true of the words written in the quran but its not true about peoples interpretation of them, there are 2 groups of muslims sunni and shia so there is a split. also around the world different groups of muslims take the text differently from the simple wearing a veil or dress modestly to ossma who claims the quran justifies his actions a belief most muslims disagree with.
so how has ilsm remained unchanged in 1400 years?

You know the man do you? You are aware of his academic background? You know how much he knows about Islam? You know that he never spoke to any Muslims to do research on the Prophet?

scotsboyuk anyone who has even the slightest bit of knowledge about Islam would never be that stupid as to print something like this...if he did having that knowledge then he proberbly had some other motive.

Why? Because he ought to know that some people have no cocept of freedom of expression and think threatening beheading is a legitimate way to convince people what to say?

a drug dealer dressed as a suicide bomber has no knowledge of the western culture, again its a 2 way street both parties needs to learn more about the different cultures

The initial idea was to print a children's book about the Prophet; perhaps to educate people on an important part of Islamic history?
In asking for drawings for the book the author found it difficult to find anyone to help him because there was such a climate of fear. It seems legitimate to me to then investigate that climate of fear.
