Hi guys,
well, the year of Farmanager and SE modding was my greatest time in Esato. Now we on iphone and all that comparism.
Well the good side about comparism is that, one gets to know the other side and either appreciate that side or his side better.
I'm a die hearted SE fan and have refused to use an iphone until recently. Well basically, i was with the same opinion - what's it about this phone that still has this much hype.
So i started using it. I've been with this phone for a week now and honestly, i just can't put it down. Believe me, this is no exaggeration. I still do love SE phones very much; especially the w705 but my encounter have redefined my thoughts about the iphone and i must say iphone has earned my respect.
You see, iphone no doubt is a very powerful device. Powerful in a sense that, its a mini mac. Apple retails the iphone with about 40% of its capabilities. the other 30% of its powers was unleashed through jailbreak. Thanks to Jay Freeman (Saurik). the remaing 30% is still laying dormant wating to be unleashed.
All the things u think the ipone can't do now, its just a matter of time, there would be a software that will address that perfectly and the good thing is, u don't get to buy another phone for that.
After all this much said, i still prefer SE phones esp, the W705, but i do appreciate the iphone its no doubt a solid device.

oh this thread has made me happy today.... thanks!

to put in my two pennies worth... I have long time been a fan of SE, Nokia and to some extent Motorola and have long time been using Nokia Symbian OS phones as my main daily handset.

Initially i was against the iPhone as just another way of Apple doing an iPod phone that will sell millions because of the i at the beginning but then after using one thought i would give it a go.

The market Apple cornered where from ppl who want extra apps and want more technical use of their handset but dont want to be tied to a computer installing the apps and want to install them on the go!

Now its great that i can get a phone with a 8mp cam built in but if i want good quality pictures i will take my dslr (yes i dont mind carrying the extra weight and bulk around with me!).

And i tried to get away from Apple by getting a G1 because of Android OS being so tempting but now find myself back with the iPhone as its so clean and crisp as an OS and installing more apps can be done anywhere with no comp nearby!

Oh and finally did i mention that the iPhones have always looked great and how impersenation is the greatest form of flattery... look at all the touchscreen phones coming out that look oh so similiar to it. And yes i know LG released a full touchscreen before the iPhone but then who was copying who? no one knows for sure!

See the truth is - You value your product first before someone else value it.
Apple has created that impression and it's living up to it's expectations.

The iphone is what apple wants it to be - to impress, to stand out, to captivate and enhance prolong endurement. It has a magic touch that keeps ur mind lock to it.

Everyone know the way to beat the iphone :
- create a device that superceeds the iphone in all features,
- give it the magical value (this creates the hype) and Support, Support, Support!
consumers should see it as a device that stays meeting up with the current trend.

The thing is, no such device is out yet.

Everyone assumes that the way to beat the iPhone is to add new hardware features. The iPhone doesn't compete in hardware features, it competes with user experience and downloadable software (apps). No-one else competes with Apple effectively in those two things. The Palm Pre will but it'll start out with CDMA and I doubt any large quantities of Pre will leave the US anytime soon. The Idou might, (I hope it does) but basically manufacturers need to throw out there past thinking and put decent screens and processors into their phones, even the low end ones and expect those phones not to be fundamentally changed for up to 3 years. That means changing their business model from 'make money from selling lots of new phones' to 'make money from keeping customers satisfied long term and buying lots of useful and entertaining apps'.

That's a big shift in the industry and not many manufacturers are ready to make it. And meanwhile the first generation iPhone and iPod Touch are still relevant... even without fancy cameras and A/F. Come firmware 3.0 they'll be even more relevant instead of less.

Now it's my turn to go off topic... there is no smart phone market, just a bunch of different devices which are lumped together because they use data and run apps.

Can you defend that? Aren't there people who prefer a Blackberry because of the emails and office type of applications versus the ordinary phones that are geared towards fun and media?
Isn't a BB Bold a smart phone? What is the iPhone?

Blackberries are smartphones, iPhones are smartphones, N95 is a smartphone, Xperia X1 is a smartphone, Palm Treo is a smartphone (there are others of course) but lumping those devices together is like saying the Mazda MX5, Honda NSX and Bugatti Veyron are similar because they're all sports cars.

Did you read the article I linked to? It explains it very well.
It was written before the arrival of the iPhone and App store and shows exactly the gap the iPhone has plugged for people like Boinng, Masseur and I. At the end the author concludes we need a new platform; well, we got one an it's very effective.

Is the 3.0 update actually adding any new features as were stated earlier in the thread by its users?

http://channel.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=18068

Not one thing has yet been confirmed by apple, not even any information on the next iPhone model,. everything stated about future updates / releases regarding the iPhone are made up hype from its fanbase.

It seems that the next iPhone is just going to be a 32 GB version of the current one. Wow, what an upgrade.

I would like the iphone to actually do one thing its meant to do properly and not be praised just because its an apple device and has an i in the name.

Its also going to get a 3.2MP shooter. At least it does something right. Oh and if it gets flash meh whatever I still will have a hate for it. Even if I buy it sooner or later. Its just should i get te W995 or the I-Phone if it coems on later with a 3.2MP camera.

Yes. That article's trying to stir doubt over the hardware features (and clearly that will all be up for speculation until the new phone is revealed in June) but the 3.0 software update is already out in beta and already contains many of the features discussed here, including stereo bluetooth, MMS, copy and paste, and a video recording extension to the camera app (non functional on current hardware).

Not one thing has yet been confirmed by apple, not even any information on the next iPhone model,. everything stated about future updates / releases regarding the iPhone are made up hype from its fanbase.

Completely untrue. Apple confirmed a long list of new features at the event back in March, and all of that has been backed up by the beta software already released. The expected hardware changes (in particular the video recording) are informed speculation, but nobody ever suggested they were anything else.

It seems that the next iPhone is just going to be a 32 GB version of the current one. Wow, what an upgrade.

Nonsense. We know for a fact that the next iPhone will be significantly improved in many ways, including software support for video recording and editing. It's a very small leap to suggest it will also have the improved camera hardware to make use of that. Anything beyond that, including your 32GB, is pure speculation, but are Apple likely to dissapoint? Not likely. Either way, whatever happens with the new model (or models) existing users are getting a very significant upgrade in the form of OS3.0.

I would like the iphone to actually do one thing its meant to do properly and not be praised just because its an apple device and has an i in the name.

One of the silliest things you've said to date. If you actually knew the first thing about the iPhone, you'd know - as even most of its staunchest critics appreciate - that it does everything it's meant to do supremely well.
