Ok, the only solution I found is to let the Nokia Care Center tackle the debranding..
They're the only ones, apart from Nokia themselves, who could do it legally..

They change the Product Code as well.. So, all further updates could be tackled by Ovi Suit..

As to the guarantee, Nokia have no problem with the Care Center doing it... But I think it's better to hand the phone to the Care Center if anything gets wrong.. For sure you wont end up with some misuderstanding by o2 or Nokia and a post-payment due to void warranty..

The whole thing costs 35€...
I really recommend this solution for anyone willing to debrand.
Doesn't cost much, warranty still runs, and no risk for any mess during flashing to end up with a bricked phone..

Nokia Care Centers should be available in every major city everywhere..

And actually it's the only solution available for me as well.
They told me only the dark grey N8 is available at retail in Germany all free..
Other colors are exclusive to the operators..

But I think if one orders a phone from the Nokia online store, it should be delivered all free.. It makes sense..
Nokia should be the only ones allowed to break those exclusive rights.. But at some cost of course.. By Nokia the N8 is a bit more expensive than retail prices..

I picked one of these up a few weeks back now kept quiet until I could be sure about it. I fell for it secretly & I have to say Nokia has done itself proud. Coming from myself a rather over fussy person,I am 110% impressed with this device. I still have my x10 but this phone is fantastic & Nokia should be pleased with themselves. So far camera it's the best on the market I have to say. It's smooth, fast, slick, takes crisp shots, has stunning HD recording even indoors. Build quality & feel is second to none with a lovely design & feel in the hand. Now Symbian 3. Not bad at all. Yes,Symbian still has a few annoying quirks but I have to be honest if you know your way around it & you use this device it is a joy to use. I have suffered in the space of a few weeks 2 crashes that happened when I first got it,one freeze when I first got it but none since. No major issues whatsoever & that is the truth. I have suffered no lag unlike my x10,the screen is so responsive & very clear AMOLED & easy to read in sunlight. No more prodding of the screen like old Symbian it is very responsive all over no problems at all. Battery life is a breath of fresh air. It manages to do my email as well as Android, has superb signal & call quality unlike some phones I could mention. Using music player(although I have an ipod)is a new fresh experience for Symbian with great audio, slick interface with cover flow album art which moves as fast as iphone. I suffer none of the slowness & annoying niggles that old Symbian suffered from. As far as I can see, this phone is miles better than what the press & reviewers rant on about. I think some people just cos they hate something that they just have to slag it down so much when in reality when you judge for yourself, you may find yourself being pleasantly surprised. And no I do not work for Nokia I never said anything a couple of weeks back cos I know what everyone is like & my overly fussiness with mobiles I could have yet again embarrassed myself once more. But as I said Symbian still does put a few things in odd places but what you then can do is customize the interface like you can do. Like move the camera out of applications into main menu. Go & try an N8 you may just be swung

Congrats for the phone and glad you're enjoying it.. Starting on Monday, I hope I meet teh same experience..

Anyway, regarding the quoted part, you have it right there..
Specially that folders can't be distinguished from Apps for the first use.. It didn't even cross to my mind to click that Office folder while searching for file manager app.. Fo I simply thought it was an office app!

Regarding the camera, holding the dedicated camera key will activate it.. No need to put it in the main menu..

And speaking of the main menu, this is the part where I really hate it to see all those biased f*cked minded reviewers all complaining about Symbian's UI..
Even with S60V5, the UI approach of Symbian still feels more complete and neater than that of Android and iOS!
Only some implementations were wrongly done.
Now with S^3, speed and responsiveness are great, only some minor stuff are to be done.
And I'm afraid Nokia's major UI upgarde will f*ck this design and make it look more like Android!
I love how one could customize the menu, folders and apps..
It would be bad to lose that feature..

True indeed. I never thought I would buy another Symbian but this has been fantastic imo. If people say oh it will be slow & laggy cos it's Symbian well I say to them go try the newer upgraded interface for yourself & see. It is so much better so much so that I am using it as my main device over my x10. That says alot imo. I am not fussed about an interface having so much eye candy. I used to think that way but over time I change. Nokia can only go forward & upwards with this now & improve even more. Now even though Android is good & I do love my x10,why is it every single Android device I have owned lags alot?? And battery life on all Androids is terrible. I have tried many Android phones & still I keep getting back on the fence about them. The Desire HD was a massive let down absolutely awful device.

Since I already took the hassle to open the topic and go through some related details, here are one last complete, yet brief, report about Nokia's Prodcut Codes, Debranding, Flashing Tools, with taking UK Product Codes as example..
I picked the UK becuase it's the only country to have all variants of PCs, and I think most members over here come from there..

One note first: PC stands for Product Code, DB for Debranding, FT for Flashing Tool, NSS for Nemesis Service Suit, JAF for JAF Box (Flashing tool), CFW for custom firmware, FW for firmware..

This is how Nokia's phones information screen looks like in the Phone: (Unbranded N8 from UK as an example)
Base FW: 011.012
CFW: 011.012.XX.XX (Not sure what could the last four digits be for the PC I posted.. maybe a user with that PC could help)
Date of CFW: ...
PC: 0599006
other noninteresting data...

Now, the base FW is the current software released from Nokia.
That is, when Nokia release their next major upate, this FW number is to change.
Some minor updates or patches would leave the base FW unchange and rather come as CFW..

PCs are unique for every type of phone..
They depend on color, country (if specified), language package, and operator (if branded)

There is no CFW for every PC.. Rather for every group of CFWs as following:

059C5Q6 Country Variant United Kingdom GB CU Blue_COLOR
059C5Q4 Country Variant United Kingdom GB CU Green_COLOR
059C5Q5 Country Variant United Kingdom GB CU ORANGE_COLOR
059C5Q7 Country Variant United Kingdom GB CU SILVER/WHITE_COLOR
059C5Q8 Country Variant United Kingdom GB V1 Dark Grey

All these PCs differ in specifying color only.. So they should have the same CFW.
How many PCs and how many CFW for the N8?
Around 420 PCs, and there should be 70 CFWs (if anyone got more idea please enlighten us)..

Now what PCs could a country or a region have: (example UK)

0599001 EURO1 BLU UK IRELAND
0598980 EURO1 DG UK IRELAND
0598997 EURO1 GR UK IRELAND
0599006 EURO1 OR UK IRELAND
0598986 EURO1 WH UK IRELAND

059C5Q6 Country Variant United Kingdom GB CU Blue_COLOR
059C5Q4 Country Variant United Kingdom GB CU Green_COLOR
059C5Q5 Country Variant United Kingdom GB CU ORANGE_COLOR
059C5Q7 Country Variant United Kingdom GB CU SILVER/WHITE_COLOR
059C5Q8 Country Variant United Kingdom GB V1 Dark Grey

059C1B7 O2 UK GB v1 Dark Grey
059C0T6 Vodafone UK GB Contract Graphite
059D4T9 Vodafone UK GB Contract Green_COLOR

- The first group is branding-free.. It's supported directly from Nokia.
- The second group is marked as CV (Country Variant).. This means the FW is supported by all major operators and an update needs the approval of every operator to get freed through Ovi Suit.
- The third group is about operators.. Branded FWs.. Updates arrive later and at certain wont arrive at all. Still, etter option than CVs..

Now, about debranding and flashing:

Peviously there were three ways to flash a Nokia phone and usually two purposes.
Purposes: Debranding; flashing with newer version in case not availvable yet for the current PC..
Ways: NSS, Phoenix, JAF.

NSS: It's a tool to change the PC. Once changed to a PC with an availbale update, then updating with Ovi Suit should follow.
However, Nokia log all their PCs and IMEI's together. Ovi Suit would recognize a changed PC and leave a messege by Nokia that the warranty for this IMEI is void.
NSS not compatible with N8 yet. And most probably wont be.

Phoenix: An easy to use flashing tool. One downloads the specific CFW to be flashed, and it will be copied to the phone with its respective PC!
Small room for messing up here, as with Phoenix, usually it either works or not.
Some people used to think that by flashing with Phoenix and changing the PC with NSS back to original wont affect the warranty since it will go unnoticed.
Wrong! Nokia would notice the flashed CFW with respect to the PC. Warranty void.

With the N8, Phoenix can't change the PC anyway, only could flash a CFW. And it seems there is some error popping up, but the phone would function good.. Risky I would say. The last thing I want is a faulty FW on my phone!

JAV: Similar to Phoenix. Same result but harder procedure as one has to collect and unzip some packages and there is room to make errors which will leave the phone bricked with only Nokia capable of fixing it. But under no warranty.
Doesn't work with the N8. Different feedbacks on this however!

You could debrand the phone by a nearest Nokia Care center for some charges.. But be aware to check the phone before paying and leaving the shop, as well as checking it from outside for any scratches..

Feel free to correct any wrong provided info or adding any valuable one..

The faulty N8s issue is one ive kept my eye on since October, i was told that other manufacturers have issues in this forum which is true, but phones constantly rebooting and eventualy never rebooting again is a huge issue, i kept quiet as i knew as more get them the more this issue will rear its ugly head, Nokia did admit to it though: http://dailymobile.se/2010/11[....]er-fault-manufacturer-reveals/ but they claim its a smaller number, the same way they did with the N97 and then eventualy they admitted it was a disaster.\\r\\nMy N8 has rebooted 4times since i recieved it last week, looking on Twitter my fellow reviewers are also experiencing reboots, not to mention Nokia Discussions and some network sites, all the same thing, the last time i saw an issue like this on such a scale was with the dead SE K800s. My N8 rebooted even during a purchase at Ovi Store, i almost flipped out, luckily it wasnt processed.\\r\\nBy the way the Nokia C7 is apparently having the same issues to, Eldar at Mobile-Review posted an investigative article trying to find out what is causing the N8 and C7s to reboot and/or die, it\\\\\\'s all speculation at this point he doesn\\\\\\'t come to an answer ,makes for an interesting read and he suggests rather buying the N8/C7 after they\\\\\\'ve had their 1st couple of FW updates early next year: http://mobile-review.com/articles/2010/n8-brak-en.shtml \\r\\nI realy like the N8, and couldn\\\\\\'t agree more with that article Bono, it has decent hardware but not so great software although some of it e.g. WebTV is just excellent, so is Photo Editor and Video Editor, the rest leaves much to be desired, i hope the updates next year will change all that, and i realy hope Nokia find out what exactly is causing the problems, everytime my N8 freezes i just hope it does reboot and doesnt die as the last time it froze i was going to be left stranded where i was if it did die, my confidence in it has been ripped away unfortunetly.\\n
You see though this is what i still do not get. Everyone thinks that Nokia are the only ones who make phones in early software that re boot or crash. Its not the case. When i had the x10 Mini i had four replacements all from different batches. All of them kept re booting upto four times or more daily without running anything but internet. And not forgetting the endless SE problems with their phones we read about. I love my x10 and my n8 but people should not think its just Nokia who has software issues. Nokia does fix issues well in updates but so far none i have had with this phone.

Heh, need i say i told you so Bonovox ? Do you think you'll get bored of the new style Symbian though ?

Anyway, its a bit like that film, The Social Network, the saying goes something like you dont get to the top without making some enemies on the way. Which is where Nokia and Symbian are.

One of my favourite things about the N8 is just how quickly Ovi maps loads. Since i have the maps for the entire of the UK stored in the phones mass memory, i just open the app and the maps are there on screen instantly. No loading, no waiting for maps to download unlike Google maps. Simply faultless.

Ive installed the latest version of Google maps onto my N8 and find it terrible to use. You appear to be only able to switch to satellite view by pressing the 5 key, which is great - except the N8 has no keypad. Stupid Google !

Nope, happy with my two phones now. I was not bored of the Desire HD it was just crap. I am pleasantly surprised & pleased with the N8. Ya know in my house on all my other phones I could never find a nearby Wi Fi free service. On my N8 I found BT Open Zone & it's the only phone to find it.
