yeah, I saw that but they will first need to (re)establish support in existing
main markets.
I just don't see the US being a large focus in the very short term
its common for CEO's to make such comments so that markets in which they can't focus right away don't feel left out... its just how things work.
...and remember, he was also asked to compare
with Apple who do have strong US support so he had to make some positive comment towards that too

And also another reason why I think the phones will be announced at CES is Sony announces their annual product portfolio at CES every year. The biggest Sony event of the year is always CES. So at least a preview of the phones is most definitely on the cards at CES.

but CES is only 9 weeks away... even after 8 months from announcing windows 7 mobile support, the best that Nokia could come up with was the Lumia 800, and that was largely an N9 derivative.

Yes I know but don't you think Sony could have prototypes ready already ? The Sony Tablet S prototypes were ready months before they were announced. Same with the PS Vita.
Vaio model prototypes are readies almost 1 year in advance.

ok, add 6 months to the 9 weeks we have from now to CES and they still would have had the same lead time that Nokia had, though I expect that Nokia already had some months with windows mobile 7 before deciding to make their announcement in Feb...
I just don't see it myself. even WMC seems a bit optimistic but I've seen Sony exhibit products before that they won't let media touch so its not out of the realms of possibility for them to show alpha (rather than beta) models behind glass cabinets to get some interest going.
perhaps I'm being too pessimistic but things just don't move as quick as we would wish in the technology world.

If anything I would suspect rebranded Sony Ericsson solutions that are currently in development.
Or perhaps quick jobs like a phone version of that awesome Gingerbread Walkman where most of the work is already done.

I would totally love that
Could be a very decent mid range device with its Tegra 2 chipset.

So does this mean SE phone prices will drop?
Seems so.

Well, definately they will want to clear up the stock...However,
sales have already been lower than 10mln/quarter,so it wont be difficult to clear up the stock...So i dont expect huge pricedrops...but i believe by mid-January,xperia arc s wont cost more than 250eur-280eur.

@10123 You betcha. The ass is going to drop out of the bottom of SE numbers now. The market will wait for the first proper Sony phone. Sony rebranding SE phones already in development would be a very questionable move but might be likely. It will take more than putting Sony on the front to move on from 1.9% market share.
