Article has no source. No way to know if it is 1/1.7", 1/1.5" or any size.

I found interesting info.

" In order to estimate LGA (Light Gathering Ability) for each device under consideration, I took the quoted optical format and:

- calculated the approximate sensor size
- factored in the aperture size (depends on F number and camera dimensions)
- factored in whether Back Side Illumination was used

Samsung S4 = 2.96
Samsung s4 zoom = 4.8
Sony Z1 = 6.2
Nokia 1020 = 20.3
Nokia 808 = 25.7

Nokia 808 = 1/1.2" f2.4
Nokia 1020 = 1/1.5" f2.2

You'd need 1/1.3" to have both 20mp and 1.9um.
1.7 seems reasonable. I don't think they'll go bigger for next year.

Z1 is old. It was one of the better cameras of its time. It was the first no bulge phone to combine big sensor with large aperture, afaik. No wonder it had high light gathering ability. It was fine until Z3+. They should have gone with f/1.8 and added ois but they chose to go with 23mp.

This is what I've said many times.
Even with smaller f value, larger sensor can catch more light.
Diameter is not same for same f value.

There are lenses that can go up to f32.
I think most close until f22.

20MP is what RX10/100 use.
It is not going to happen, but you all can dream of it tonight.
😊

Xperia 1 and 5 have very good cameras, they just need to pay DXO for that top score. We're at the stage now where we need unique software features and a better camera interface.

If someone is by the window against the light, the auto mode of any camera wont show you the outside with blue sky.
No camera will give you bright foreground without overexposed background.
You fix by editing.
Excess of HDR used by Samsung and Goolge leads to colour issues in daylight.
I have seen many photos of cloudy days by Samsung with blueish gray sky.

There are situations that background is indeed overexposed, since none of these tech sites use a camera as target, we cant know which phone is doing right.
If you pay attention to outdoor news, you will see camcorder has blown out background in many cases.

Apple and Google dont have 4K HDR.
8bit video cannot ever match 10bit.

Since they have now the Cinema Pro, the regular 4K probably wont get love.

I totally agree with the camera. The X1 camera is definitely great. I can't compare with the latest flagship from Apple or Samsung, but comparing with the previous flagship, X1 much better.

I don't have much problem with the overexposed background, because normally, I will touch at different point to change the exposure or if the background is too bright, I will switch on the HDR.

I did not like the new cam app that came with android 9.

The one brought by z5 is much better.
Up or down I can access everything.
And diagonal for front cam (option came with X series).

Easy to use and much faster.
I do not onow why tech site like those used by Apple and Samsung that have name of each function.
Fun fact is they complain about the swipe on Sony, but other do same.

Does anyone else here think bokeh is overrated?
I think it ismpointless to go outdoor but "hide" the scenario.

1. Xperia X1 is an old phone that has nothing to do with Xperia 1
2. Xperia 1 can definitely be compared to the latest Samsung or Apple. In fact, the Xperia is better - I see quite a bit of photos on social media from those phones and they definitely seem inferior to Xperia.

what i'd really love to see is an improved version of the cinema pro app to provide more features. yes it gives great manual control, but sony should look at the reviews out there and take note of the features people would like to see and add them to the cinema pro app. it's a great app, but if they can improve it, it'll be a home run. right now it's free. even if they charge $5 USD for the additional features to cover the development cost of it, it'd be fine. Apple charges $15+ for their movie app.

Also, adding a robust, on device video editing app would be fantastic. Obviously, there will be limitations, but something that can do more than simply trimming a video.

Using their own sensors for all three cameras would be good too.

@XPR, when we write X1 we mean Xperia 1. Not that first xperia from 2008 with windows.
