One thing puzzles me (from sony xperia official spec sheet):
"Autofocus system covering nearly 70% of sensor area"

Assuming we're talking about Dual Pixel AF system, I was under impression that it should be 100%. Samsung sates following on their page:

First introduced on Galaxy S7, Dual Pixel Auto Focus is the result of doubling up on the photodiodes in the camera — two photodiodes per pixel. This means the camera can bring in much more light than a device with only one photodiode per pixel, and brightens up even low light photos. So your camera is able to focus on the subject quicker, making your photos come out clearer.

Doesn't it mean 100% of sensor coverage?

Galaxy S7 is the first phone with Dual Pixel autofocus, here's what it means

Dpaf is a technology but doesn't mean every pixel. Samsung used 100% in their s7 but not sure if they've continued that in the s20. Sony does 70% but they also add a time aspect which seems unique to Sony. The time aspect allows them to do things like the eye tracking and action photography with burst photos and they're all in focus.

Just cause it's 70% doesn't make it worse than Samsung. Even a Canon 5d only does 80% of it's pixels.

Just another fake marketing from Samsung.
Imx686 is first 100%.

Canon created dual pixel, none of their sensors have 100% of frame covered.
DSLR dont need because they use one sensor just for focus while cmos is just for image.
PDAF (also can be known as ON-sensor PDAF) have different number of AF points according to each sensor.
A9 has 93% of frame covered by AF , A7 iii does not.

On promo, the part of real time AF, when photo of girl is taken, Photo Pro UI shows f1.8 + iso600.
Dog and cat show f1.7 ....

Thanks!

On sony website, both girl and cat photos have f1.8. Only in commercial/video it's different

Bright shades ? Navy blue or purple sky? Deep black?

I have PS Express on iPad. (If you dont have, download and play with it)
There is a HDR toggle with different kinds of HDR and level to be applied.
All them changes WB drastically.
Colors are boosted to vivid

Parts get darker than they are (usually sky ), part gets brighter (foreground).
That is why I dont like HDR+/stacking.

The photos of S20Ultra look like that AI image enhancement that came with P20 Pro and Huawei got rid later.
Sky was dark blue, almost as dark as blue of X10 body.

There was an interview ublished last year, I read on eprice taiwan, that people responsible for cam software said they were studying this possibility, because they heard so many people love boosted colours, no matter how fake it was.

If it's true, unless you only shoot raw, your photos may be like social media filter.

That has been the trend for too long now.
Sony should at least give options for users to have instragram-friendly algorithm but I guess the manual mode will suffice.

BTW, Sony had never removed their color temperature sensors on Xperia but no one has been talking about it until Huawei decided to put one for themselves.

Sony being Sony again, letting others take credit for what they have first

That's why there are filters and endition apps.
So ppl can have fake looking photos.

How to make your photo overprocessed fake looking like Samsung S20 Ultra on PS Express tutorial :

- HDR 1 : max
- exposure : + 10
- contrast : + 25
- shadows : + 90
- blacks : + 90
- whites: - 100
- temperature : +3
- vibration: + 25
- saturation : + 20

@goldenface ... like you I'm hoping for the 1 mark ][ in compact form (I don't care if it has 4G/LTE only or 5G because where I'm at .. there is no 5G in site except mmWave from 1 carrier in 4 cities = pocket gouging on price.

Man, it was ridiculous price before for the Xperia 1 and now it's beyond that.
The question is now whether to stick with the preorder of the Galaxy S20 Ultra or go back to the glorious Sony.
It is the first phone in many years from Sony I want so bad.

I feel this is the true Sony Xperia many of us have wanted in a very long time. It just clicks all the boxes just perfectly. Including Hi-Res Audio using LDAC. I've not had experience using this codec and curious how others have with their music and say the WH-1000XM2/3's ?

USA 5G support:
http://anisimoff.org/eng/5g/spectrum/5g_usa.html

a more simplistic chart: https://www.phonearena.com/ne[....]-vs-T-Mobile-vs-World_id116781

You have frequency range 1 (FR1) that includes sub-6GHz frequency bands, which are not that far from the 2-3GHz bands used by current 4G LTE networks; and then you have frequency range 2 (FR2) that uses frequency bands above the 24GHz range and further into the extremely high range often referred to as millimeter wave range (mmWave). Put simply, FR1 are bands that can travel further and can be used for wider roll-out of the 5G network. FR2 bands, on the other hand, are extremely challenging: these bands provide immense amounts of bandwidth, but cannot travel far and hardly go through obstacles like walls.

Verizon's 5G network is based on the 28GHz and 39GHz bands, both high-frequency band in the millimeter wave (mmWave) range
AT&T is currently rolling out a 5G network based on its 39GHz band (band n260).
Sprint is using band 41 for its 5G roll-out and it is currently the only US carrier that does not use a high-frequency band, but is instead using a mid-frequency band for its 5G service.
T-Mobile is using its 600MHz spectrum on LTE Band 71, which was formerly used by channels 38 to 51 on UHF-based TVs. These are low-frequency signals that easily travel far and wide, unlike mmWave.

T-Mobile is also planning to use higher-frequency bands similar to what AT&T and Verizon use. Magenta plans to use the 28GHz and 39GHz bands for high-speed 5G transmissions.

Man I really love the styling of this Xperia 1][ ... sleek, mean, ... just proppa!
