Got my Vodafone branded T610 flashed to R1L today, no problem, but I still got those crap menus and other stuff, do I have to remove the SIM before the flash? Do I have to unlock it first?
it doesn't matter... it's locked so it can only be upgraded with Vodafone firmware when upgraded @ a

So I have to unlock it first? Is that the reason that some people get rid of the vodafone-branded software?

Ok well there have a few discussions on this already here so probably worth doing a search or two for things like "T610 video" to help you with your review of other users comments... but to sum up...
no its not possible to record video and probably won't be since video requires quite a bit of memory. Also people already complain about still image quality of the cam (I don't) and so would not be happy with video. Lastly if all of the above were not a factor the software would probably need to be written in java since SE are unlikely to include such a feature in the firmware and its already been shown that the java in the T610 is one of the slowest on the market.
Jbenchmark.

To all thoughs going to Car Phone Warehouse to get their t610's flashed I'd like to point out that the company is NOT an authorised Sony Ericsson dealer for sw upgrades.
Having spoken to SE they told me they do not give the sw upgrades to them and would not recommend them for this purpose, so stay clear folks.

Hmm I just went to my local SE service centre with my Orange branded T610. They blasted it with the new version R1L and gave it back to me. When I got it home and turned it on I found the following things: -
My More menu on the main screen had been replaced with a red blob of a button with a vodafone live logo.
My icon menu had been replaced with this ugly 4 colour menu of icons. My submenus under Pictures and sounds had a 2 x Orange menu items (non functional) and 1 x Sony Ericsson menu item (non functional).
On the plus side. The screen saver clock font is more readable in sunlight, menus do appear ever so slightly faster and the screensaver (which was the standard Orange mouse chasing the cheese) was much much faster and smoother as you would expect it to be (sometimes I wonder if we pay for pre-release phones).
So I phone the SE service centre back up and then take the handset back and ask them to put the correct firmware for Orange and not Vodafone. I called them this afternoon to find out if it is ready only to be told they are waiting for SE to get back to them as they cannot understand how to get it back to Orange firmware. Doh!!

I got my phone flashed from R1A to R1L today at RS Electrics, Tottenham. Took about 45 minutes. Main things I've noticed are improved camera pictures, slightly faster when uing menu's and slightly faster txt messaging.

Questions without answers?
Does the annoying increasing ring volume disappear with R1L?
Can you stay connected via GPRS when ending the browser with R1L?
