I agree with eastcoastar.
His plan is fool proof, but neither of you have understood it...
If you put the 3l can in the 5l can, and pour the water into the 5l upto the top, without any getting into the 3l, there will be 2l.
You pour those 2l into the 3l can, and repeat the process, and when u have got 2l more in the 5l can, you pour the 2l from the 3l into the 5l, and you will have 4l...
This explanation is and answer, and a question at the same time...its my answer, but id be suprised if anyone understands it... lol

You are not allowed to cut open cans! And no measuring marks on the side. You can do it, it is pretty easy.
