Or maybe SE forgot to put it in the whitepaper

Or perhaps like the card reader it does not work?

Actually, the card scanner software works, and works very well too. I was at CommunicAsia 2006 playing with the P990i for a couple of hours. The card scanner software took a mere 10 sec to process the name card and convert it into the contact database. Real fast and COOL.

That is good news was this recently? as all the info I am getting here from Vodafone is that it does not work

I've used one of the alternatives, the HTC Universal, and its now collecting dust. Having used the M600 I believe UIQ3 + Symbian 9.1 have great potential. For sure the P990 will not be 100% fault free, but its a great advance. Remember its your money so buy what you like!

Jah,

Do you work in SE or something? You hate the Universal just so much, I'm using it and loving it !

Yours could be faulty. I don't use my laptop at home anymore, the Univeral does it for me.

No my friend I dont work for SE. There are lots of people who were disappointed with the Uiversal: poor battery, poor strengthBT, very expensive, memory management problems when you use Power Save etc. Even MS employees have apologised about the slowness of the device. I perfer my small Sony TX1 with a 3G data card.

Hi Nitro Fan, it's held from 20 June 06 till yesterday. I was there on the very first day. I had done a preview and wrote my tests at my-symbian.

Hi slimfady, there are no smart phones that supports faster than 12Mbps. All are USB 2.0 only. If my memory serves me right, there are 3 types of USB:

USB 1.0/1.1 (don't even need to mention the speed)
USB 2.0 (12 Mbps)
High Speed USB 2.0 (480 Mbps)

The same can somewhat be applied to WiFi. A few newer smart phones are supporting the g (54Mbps) standards today, but NON can even reach the full speed of b standards, i.e., 11Mbps. Of course, with g standards is always better for compatibility sake.

Due to the processor speeds, Flash RAM speed in terms of read/write, and most importantly, battery life, today's smart phones can not reach the "expected" performance levels as compared to PC/Laptops. Let's hope fuel cells can sort out battery life issues and I am sure manufacturers will start pumping out high speed connectivity on smart phones by then.

Just to clarify the various forms of USB you see around:

USB 1.0/1.1 (either 1.5Mbps or 12Mbps)
USB 2.0 "Full Speed" (12Mbps)
USB 2.0 "High Speed" (up to theoretical 480Mbps)

What confuses most folk is that USB 2.0 doesn't by default mean the higher speed, and even more confusingly some idiot decided to call USB 2.0 @ 12Mbps "Full Speed" which has to be one of the most inappropriate names they could have possibly thought of.

About the only SE device I know of to support USB 2.0 High Speed is the W900i in file transfer mode.
