@Xajel
I don't see Samsung as selling cheap devices, at least not their flagships. The S4 may look cheap with its plastic build and a dumb-looking UI, but in terms of stability both in software and hardware, they really provide. 2K may be absurd in a 5-5.2" screen but it would be S5's main selling point against it's competitors, heck even Oppo's next flagship is rumored to have a 2K display.

@amirprog
The reason why Sony had not used IPS in their display before, probably the most probable as it only came from a few people in the internet, is that they were committed to sell an amount of those poor displays from an old supply chain before they can buy themselves a new supply chain with better quality which they have successfully done now.

totally Agreed.

did anyone notice this (wikipedia):
Annual best-selling handsets of 2013:
Apple Iphone 4S, 97 million sold
Samsung S4,over 55 million sold
Nokia Lumia 520, 10 million sold
SONY XPERIA Z,6 million sold
BlackBerry Q10, 3 million sold

isn't that enough proof that sony can be strong enough with one flagship per year?
i don't know how accurate this list is but if it's updated for the whole year then Z sold more then the praised LG G2 and Note 3.

there is no details yet for 2013 best selling manufacturers. i expect sony to jump one rank up in sells. they were ranked 7-9 in 2012.

I might partly agree with you, not because of my hate to Samsung but because of personal experience, I already have Note 2 which I gave to my wife and I have S4...

Note 2 was okay, but lately it keeps restarting and stuck for no reason, I factory-reset it and flashed new firmware just to make everything clean but still no go, still restart and shutdown and sometimes stuck for no reason...
The S4 was a disaster (i9500, the 3G Exynos version), It's been 13 months now since I have it and for more than half that period the device was over heating with no reason even for simple apps like WhatsApp or Fb or G+.. battery life was awful requiring charging for 3 times per day, and two updates didn't solve the problem until I used a Russian firmware which was more stable but still overheats some times but not as frequent as before.. the firmware for my country kept the same problems even for another third update according to local regional forums which all was facing the same problem and alot of them went for other firmwares ( Russian or German ) just to get rid of this problem but most doesn't as they prefer Arabic UI language which is only available in the regional firmwares...

Now the situation is better as I updated it to 4.3 with my regional firmware ( not russian )... it now behave normally after 9 months of releasing...

And the Knox is another disaster, even if you flashed a simple root the Knox bit will be 1 and warranty is void and Knox is not reversible.. even if you removed the root and flashed stock firmware the service center will check the Knox bit, if it was 1 then warranty is void !!

I bought these two Samsung because my contract wasn't aligned with Sony's product launch, and after S4 I'm done, my contract is already over from 2 months, I converted it to prepaid, temporarily until Sony launches Sirius here.

@itsjustJOH
Yeah, i heard that, i think it's a bad management and strategy. why did they have to buy so many VA panels (or whatever type of LCD display they had) for xperia Z which is a half a year flagship? why did they choose that type of panel instead of IPS?
@Tsepz_GP
Yeah, you are right. that list is not updated. at least sony sold more then 2012. a good thing. would be interesting to see the numbers.

if you think this is the Z1 then i think you need to see your nearest optometrist, hehe. this looks like the Z1 with a touch of photoshop. does sony use photoshop on their own devices? i hope not.

It is the Z1 just photoshopped, Sony has done this in the past in such photos and sometimes it is the fault of the firm that does the work for sony since it might not be in house.

The differences from the Z1 are the bezels, top, side and bottom but that is not because it is a new device, that is because the screen image is simulated and was pasted onto the device poorly making the bezels smaller. Plus it is running android 4.3 and not kitkat which any new device would be especially in press pictures.

Look at the speaker grill, if you bring down the lines from the edge of the speaker grill they line up with the Z1. Also the notification light on surius is much much wider and this is clearly not the case on the image.

I've been photoshopping images for a long time now, over 10 years and such mistakes occur in press photos, it occurs quite a lot in the car industry especially.

Sony made an effort to cut down on leaks, I doubt they would make such a mistake where it would leak with the A6000 image. It's just a poorly photoshopped Z1 with playmemories app blown up with simulated images, nothing more.

@ascariss
that's what i said in other words. they should start with real teaser videos and photos soon. i think last time they started to advertise teasers a week before Z1 announcement.

@Xajel
Well, shit happens. You get a bad device from Samsung, some guys get bad ones from Sony (hello Bonovox ), Apple, LG, HTC. I think the earlier you buy a device after release, the more likely you will get a bad one with hardware flaws. This usually happens for the first batches of production, then they get reports and fix them for the next batches. Just one of my thoughts before buying phones, though I haven't for years now with college giving me a hard time financially.

@amirprog
We really won't know, although it's probably a financial thing.

xiaomi red from China did the opposite. first production has gorila 3. later batches were silently downgraded.

Oooh, nice. This could be T2, like Z Ultra was a large phablet and Z was the smaller 5" phone. I'm not hoping for the same price as Moto G since Google sold it like a Nexus, but hopefully about the launch price of Xperia L.
