Hi!

Advice on this question would be helpful!

Would there be any problem with me just swapping my Vodaphone contract SIM that I use in my Bold, now and then to the Pearl 8120? You'll need to login to bis every time to change to change device...

and I got another one, which I think I understand, but want to double check.

I am hoping an BB Pearl 8120 arrives tomorrow and I want to reflash it, for my friends, so it supports Japanese.

I downloaded - 8120EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel108_PL2.7.0.78_A4.5.0.81_Voda_Australia.exe

So my question is - Is this procedure correct?

1. Launch BB Desktop Manager (4.6) and connect the 8120 and the Desktop will pick up the unique BlackBerry pin.

2. Click on the 8120EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel108_PL2.7.0.78_A4.5.0.81_Voda_Australia.exe file and.... wait..!

3... This is what I can't remember ! What should I expect to happen next!

- Download whatever OS you want
- Install OS to your PC
- Delete XML file (C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Reseach In Motion\\App Loader
- Connect BB to PC via DTM
- DTM will say new updates found
- Tick languages you want to install
- Click next a few times
- Leave it to do it's business
- Done!

thanks fatreg!

That's clear !

I just realised that the Pearl 8120 doesn't have UMTS so will not work in Japan

Oh well! My friend will be using it in England and her own Japanese phone there..

I hope to report back with a successful update tomorrow!

another question...

I installed 8120EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel108_PL2.7.0.78_A4.5.0.81_Voda_Australia.exe to my Bold, and now, on my PC there is a vendor.xml in the C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Common Files\\\\Reseach In Motion\\\\App Loader directory.

I guess executing the fle for the 8120 firmware will overwrite the previous xml file, and then I will need to delete the newly extracted xml file.

Question is - the vendor.xml file there now relates to my Bold. Will deleting or overwriting it be a problem?

Maybe the installation of the new firmware for the 8120 creates a new directory for it?

Maybe I am worrying toooo much!

Got the black housing and a nice red back..... but...

It's really easy, even Dogmann could do it!

Some bits were too fiddly for my eyes to see! For example, taking the buttons off and replacing them on the new housing.

So I got rid off the Vodafone logo and changed the back cover..

So red, black and silver design now

Hi!

how do I do a factory reset on the 8120? Need to clear all data and email accounts!

After having a good read....

Edit
1. On your BlackBerry Pearl, go to Options
2. Select Security Options
3. Select General Settings
4. Press the button located left of the trackball
5. Finally, select Wipe Handheld

I'm having an unlocking issue with my BB 8700v. I bought it from my work locked to Vodafone (I assume). I'm on Orange so I got my friend who is on Voda to call them and get an unlock code.
I got the code and instructions, followed them and the phone read "Code Accepted". However now the phone won't register my orange SIM.
The MEPD menu reads all fields as DISABLED and at the top it says SIM card: No valid SIM card"

What should I do? Is there a time delay on unlocking?

Ok, reading back a few pages has got me thinking of taking a BB Pearl from Orange as my contract is up soon and ill get a free one, coming from se p900, p910 , p1i, X1 etc (and going back to P1 ) . Will I like it ?
The pearl has the best form factor for me but the screen is a tad small, the others have a big screen but are a bit bigger. It seems they are all pretty functional, wifi , gps, and all, and I mostly use opera mini on wifi, ocaisionally on gprs.
Touchscreen will be missed but the few Blackberrys Ive handled have thet natty touch stick which seem to work well.

I dont watch movies or listen to music, little texting, check email when abroad and keep a few notes.

Pearl or the other ones ?, Orange do about 4, Pearl, Bold , Curve and flip.

Reccomendations... Pros, cons.

I use a bold and really like the keyboard it makes email/twitter really easy. The bold`s camera is only a 2mp but it isnt too bad. I use mine on o2 and never have any problems with connection 3g or wifi.
The keyboard put me off the pearl i think the qwerty keyboard on the Bold or Curve are more user friendly.
If you want 3g then go for the Bold if you dont need 3g and want a 3.2mp camera go for the Curve
