Voda is a good company to go with. One of the largest in the world, so good if you travel. Now it is July 1. No 2nd qtr. release for the P990. SE better steps up the pace.

what I mean by contract phone on Vodaphone is that you are paying full price for the phone so there is no benefit as you are tied to them for a year

What about just ordering the phone from sweden? tbh.se has p990 listed at aprox. 470 pounds???? I did it with the P900 a few yars ago and it worked perfectly. If find the co.uk prices a little steep!

I think you have a good point here. I think the new Symbian 9.1 devices are cheaper to make. Witness the relative low price of he Nokia E61 and the dramatic reduction in the M600 price in the UK from UKP399 to around UKP315 within two weeks. And the price of the M600 keeeps reducing. I sustpect its natural price is around UKP290.
