It's a durability-issue. The phone connector last longer if it's on the side of the phone.

You had me going then for a while, though it is a good idea. Why shouldn't they provide wireless stereo BT headsets as standard - especially on the higher-end phones.

They may have put the fast port on the side so that they can make a tripod accesory. If there was a tripod accessory it would make sense for them to use the fastposrt to attach it to the phone. It is only a thought, it might be there as they didnt have room to put on the bottom/.

I agree. It would be useful as there are a lot of things using mini usb now so I always have one plugged into my pc.
