Excellent post Max Wedge.
What we have to remember is that these camera phones are just phones with cameras in the back, they are not going to compete with a DSLR or even a mid/good P&S. For what they are they are very good at what they do.
@Amp34,
You're new here. In case you missed these, please have a look at the snaps
here and
here.

I still prefer the extra detail (even given the extra noise) of the K850.
Most of the time the noise in K850i photos are just noise. It looks like BIG speck of dust on the photo which contributes nothing to detail. (There are many example photos in the mobil.cz, gsmarena, smape review). Unlike the noise we see in N93 photos, the K850 noise looks more like sensor defect (or results of cheap and coarse sensor)
The colour is easy to correct, and the hazziness you notice in the K850 outdoor pics is over exposure (in contrast to the N95 which can tend to be under-exposed).
This is so funny. Let see what you need to do with K850 photo to make it acceptable:-
1. Correct color
2. Correct over-exposure
3. Remove noise
4. Sharpen image
In case you forget (with your pre-occupation to defend the K850

), for most people the cam phone is a point-and-shoot device.
btw: I dont see my N95 photos underexpose. Just dont think because K850 photo over-exposed then naturally N95 is under-exposed.
So the answer is to take K850 outdoor pics one or two exposure steps under zero. You will then have less noise, more detail, perfect exposure and only the colour to correct in photoshop.
Are you really sure about that?? Maybe you can ask your fellow se defender plankgatan to do that and post the result here. Since we know for a fact he tweaks the K850 settings before taking pictures. Unfortunately he has this great phobia about posting his "amazing"

photo in full-res. Come to think of it, I havent seen many picts of K850 posted in this forum is full-res. Wonder why?

go back through all the picture threads, you will see that very few people bother posting full res images. Are they also afraid? What about the K750 picture thread, the same, very few full res images, yet no one was ashamed of K750.
As for underexposure of N95, I make my statement on the basis of observation not assumption. In the links you provided me, many direct comparisons of K850 to N95, the K850 pics are over-exposed and the N95 are under exposed to an equal degree. If one purposefully under-exposes the K850 pictures (to reduce the washed out affect), you also get back detail lost to the usual over-exposure, and since you are using a lower exposure, a lower ISO is automatically selected by the camera therefore reducing noise as well.
With N95, if you over expose to reveal detail lost to darkness, the camera will increase ISO therefore increasing noise. Atleast with the K850 you have more control.

Hi all
Sorry but after 15 pages this thread is just going over the same things again and again. It's like trying to convince people that Black is White and White is Black. For the sake of every ones sanity can't we all just agree to disagree and as i said on page 13 if you prefer SE buy SE and if you prefer Nokia buy Nokia as we are never going to get anyone to agree here before the end of time.

The following are (those I know of) reviews of both cam by 3rd party. These websites has done actual review. I am disregarding those sites which regurgitate info. It is up to each individual to make up his mind which is better. For me, I know which is better.
What I can't accept are individuals who seems to totally ignore these reviewers opinions and then said their own "analysis" give a more accurate conclusion (and some of them dont even dare to post full-res photo

)
phonearena.com
We are disappointed by the Sony Ericsson K850 and how it performs as a camera. Really, considering it is the top Cyber-shot branded phone, it should be one of the best on the market, but the comparison with the old N95 and the G600 shows different things.
gsmarena.com
In this heavy-weight championship series the Sony Ericsson K850 managed to collect a total of 31 points, while the Nokia N95 managed to beat it by a slight margin with a total of 34 points. Those numbers are indicative only and you should give more weight to the results of the tests that matter most to you. It was a close call, but this time we prefer the Nokia model.
smape.com
Sony Ericsson were able to design a well-balanced 5 Mpix camera phone which isn’t bad at all at taking pictures but it has very few advantages over the N95 while the latter was able to beat its competitor in quite a number of tests.
phonedaily
http://www.phonedaily.com/news/?news_id=6166
translated...N95 relatively stronger color and showing more (photo) details gives N95 a small win (over K850)
mobile-review.com
In all conscience I have to admit that the Nokia N95 over the past 6 months has become the most popular 5 Mpix equipped device, but the Sony Ericsson K850i is not only on its heels, it also surpasses it in the imaging department (that’s our only focus now).

Yes, people were posting images in the same fashion. However, that comment is actually not accurate. Have a look at the proliferation of full res K750/W800 images in Esatos Mobile Phone Photo Gallery. People were also very happy to be showing full res exampes taken by the K750 in the Esato gallery. Why? Because the K750/w800 images also looked very good at full res. They didn't have to hide the imperfections by shrinking images. At smaller resolutions there is no advantage in the K850 images over the older K750/w800 images, none at all (except for flash photos). At full res the majority of the K750/W800 shots are much better and actually look real. Have a look for yourself - go through the Esato gallery, set the filter so you are only viewing the K750/w800 images. Look at each image at full res and you'll soon see how they don't suffer the graininess, lack of colour and lack of sharpness that affects the K850. Do the same with the K850. The K850 shots are awfull. Look at the water fountain picture - it looks good shrunken but at full res looks like a bad oil painting. It doesn't even look real. In fact, there is not one real full res K850 image in the Esato gallery that looks anywhere decent. This is very strange for a forum that is primarily dedicated to SE phones and frequented mainly by SE fans. I rest my case your honour.

actually very interesting point

and not a bad idea. so by any chance, would it be possble to comapre the same shot with k750, k800 and k850? lets say all those 3 mentioned models should make it in 2mp. then the last 2 models in 3 mp and k850 also in 5mp? in full res if possible ( i mean to upload and see )

I've just been browsing more images in the Esato Gallery. Have a look at this W800i image at full res:

This is a great photo. The dragonfly is so clear and you can actually zoom in on the full size image without too much loss. So far not one K850 image i have seen anywhere on the internet comes near to the quality you could get out of the K750/w800.
