@goldenface
My pleasure!
Keep the 3 inch screen and have the 5 way jog dial of the old P series. How's that for a limited touchscreen phone?

The X1 is a good size, yet has a 3inch screen with dpad AND touchpad AND full touchscreen.

The X1 is a landscape slider, but I agree. They should have had the dpad on top. Lets see how it shapes up in the coming months. Surely someone would have seen this and thought about it. Lets see.
Next announcement will probably see some new mid end stuff according to MR.

The full screen of Aino and its simple design is a great part of its appeal. Anyway, I think I'll reserve judgement till I've actually used the phone but calling it crippled!
@EMS06
Aino is running A2 and part of its appeal is the keypad shortcuts - these make navigating the menus lightening fast and is part of the UI appeal. A keypad would be required and would work better than the Jogdial IMO.
May be someone who has used such a design, like the Sharp phones se_dude posted, could comment on how the design fairs. I'd like to hear their thoughts.
There must be a review out there, I'll go read up.

If the phone had full touchscreen, the design wouldn't be so unusable.

I do know many people who always open their slider phone when using it even though thry have all the keys they need on top(dpad). One reason may be that that's one of the ways to unlock the keys, another that the phone may feel better in the hand that way (probably wouldn't be so in the already hefty Aido) or they're just used to opening it when texting and such. My point is that for many people sliding down the keyboard to use the d-pad may not be as big a deal as it is for me (or some of you guys).
note: I'm not trying to butter up se- I still think full TS support AND keys would be best- I was only commenting on the question as to wether how (un)annoing using such a phone would be.

What in your experience can it not do that makes the design crippled and unusable?
May be you could upload a video to Youtube and show us this difficulty you are having because, correct me if I'm wrong but none of the reviewers who have had this phone in their hands seem to have expressed this so called difficulty that renders the design unusuable.

This again? We have touch for media properties to ease it up and the buttons for the phone properties as it is easier. Both methods are seperated for both modes that are easy in one or the other.

Ditto.
I ALWAYS open the slider before I use any options in my phone, except changing volume. The one step slide is way less inconvenient than a 2 button unlock procedure. PLus the using number key shortcuts deal I have mentioned like 20 times by now to each and every one who complains.
Makes me wonder, just how many of those who complain here actually USE a slider regularly?

I agree, the full screen design is what actually makes it a stunner, or it would turn out to be like just another slider with the d-pad there. It's simplicity is the core of its appeal. But I also think it would've only been a practical design if it supported full touchscreen functionality so in other words, it's impractical IMO.
