I do think the N8 has much better WLAN electronics and software than other phones, every device ive owned always finds around 5 wireless networks where i live, the N8 finds 8 to 10.

Not that i can use any of them mind, other than my own !

One of my close friends who has used a SE P910i for the last 6 years or so, not upgraded once in all that time has decided to buy a Desire HD. I asked why not the N8, he said because its sh*t and Android is better. He knows very little about mobile phones.

I do like Android but i still find it laggy at times. Too many people including myself sometimes automatically presume something is rubbish when they have not tried it. I got this few weeks back to be sure of it and to stop people going on at me. In three weeks i have had virtually no issues. It froze once on first day when i was in putting a word into t9

Yes, this is the best thing abuot Nokia's hardware! Everything that has to do with signals is top of the competition.

Anyway back to my branding rather "boring" story..
I've been lied to! Deceived like a ten years old kid!
Those Nokia Care center are nothing but a big lie..

They told me on Saturday they would change the Product Code, Custom Firmwareversion, and the guarantee is secured..

I picked up the phone today with the PC teh same (not changed), and only the CFW changed.

After calling for the so called technician, the conversation went like this:
Me: Excuse me, but the PC is not changed. (I showed him)
NC: Yes, with latest Nokia phones one can't change the PC anymore. Then, why would you need that. I flashed the original CFW.
Me: But what if I do some updates via Ovi Suit when those would arrive?
NC: Don't worry. Everything would run quite well.
Me: So, you're telling me that the PC doesn't need to be changed anymore?
NC: Yes.. Otherwise you'd lose the guarantee with that.
Me: What the f**k?!! Losing the guarantee. Just two days ago you told me you're the only ones allowed to do this without voiding any warranties!! What changed now!
If it'S just about flashing, I could do this at home in 30 minutes and for free! Heck, I could program my own tool for that if I wanted to!! (Me shouting out of fury)
Whom are you trying to fool here?!!
NC: (The so called technician interrupted me) I guarantee for you, you will be able to update normally.
And if you fail in that, just come back to me and I'll put the latest update on your phone for free.
Me: Could you just tell me what tool did you use to flash? Is it an official Nokia Flashbox or just a third-party tool?!Nokia are the only ones able to change product codes. Just don't tell me otherwise.
NC: It's not that easy. We have to send a protocol and wait for an approval. It could last up to three weeks.

I sensed at this moment, there is no point going on. The man is lying like crazy and I wont be able to pull anything from him.
Maybe the only thing I'm sure right now is that my warranty still valid. And their is a little possibility I could update, but I highly doubt it!
All in all, I just did a mistake. Next time, I will only order phones by Nokia's online store. Or just find an all free phone by some major phones shop. F*ck those offers and contracts.
If things don't go smooth with next update, I'll just sell this N8 and go for a new one directly from Nokia.

For now, users who would like to debrand their phones, just do it the Navifirm/Phoenix way.. You'd end up with the same result, and paying nothing. You could go back by hard-resetting or backing your previous firmware and reintalling it through Ovi Suit..
By that, you'd maintain your warranty in case you need to drop your phone y some service point for hardware repairs.

And could anyone with CFW 011.012.00.01 just tell what standard apps and media files came with the phone?
Just in brief. No need to list every app by name and every photo, video, and web tv..

Two issues:

- Ovi Maps update was supposed to delete all maps and voices data and installs those again..
I ended up with updated Navi (version 3.06) but all maps and voices gone.
Anyone suffered the same? I'm downloading those all over again! Its about 3 Gb..

- Why in hell are videos showing in the photos viewer? Is it just me, or it's supposed to work that way?

Other than that, the N8 is simply going all smooth..

@ Bonovox - i like Android too but i find it rather boring. I think Android's default menu icons and grey menus put me off over phones like the N8. I was fooling around with a Desire HD today in CPW, it was really nice, but nothing special really grabbed my attention when i was using it other than its screen size.

@ false_morel - ive held off updating Ovi maps at the moment as ive read a few people complain about its stability. Ive had two N8 phones now and both came with full UK maps preinstalled, but i performed a master reset on my new N8 and lost all the maps. Its not really a big deal though if you can download them onto your pc first using a fast internet connection like mine.

Regarding the videos in the images app, that has always been the way of Symbian. I prefer it over having two seperate icons / apps to seperate the two. My main gripe with Symbian has always been with hiding pictures. Often my girlfriend will send me sexy pictures of herself and im unable to hide them anywhere - they still appear in the gallery ! So, whenever people want to look at my phone, being new and awesome (lol), i have to watch what they do with it very carefully !!

Lastly, i tried a WP7 today, the HTC HD7, i must admit Apple and their iOS looks really dated now compared to the new Windows interface. Its even more fluid ! sadly, like Android and iOS (in my opinion of course), it too is rather limited compared to Symbian. I seriously could not do much with the phone other than basic functions like browsing pictures.

Yes,I find my x10 laggy compared to the N8 which alot of people will say to me 'yeah right' but it's true. Still no issues with my N8 at all. No crashes no freezing

I have one slight issue about the build quality, on the rear at the top of the phone above the camera island is the plastic end cap. If i press mine in the middle it clicks and gives way, a bit like a feather touch button. My first N8 did this, so does my second. A possible weak point in its construction ??

Heh, i also played with the Galaxy S in CPW this afternoon, it lagged terribly and wouldnt respond to half my screen taps. A possible reboot may have been needed..

No I don't have that issue on mine. It's solid as a rock. Just tried what you said but it's fine. Perhaps yours is a certain batch I have experienced this before with say some batches of phones where the build quality between different production weeks was inconsistent According to the instructions Nokia say there is antennas on top & bottom. I wonder which is which cos I don't get no death grip issues & great signal. Only things I hate about this phone are no camera lens protection & the terrible landscape keyboard but I never use it in landscape for typing much anyway.
