Vertu just announced a new phone last week.
My only option is to buy a device of 2019 or 2020, keep it as long as it works.
Come back to flip and get a tablet..

No way I use Pixel (because of stock) nor phones with speaker beside USB.

Sharp will sell 2 or 3 in Europe.
Panasonic sells all their phones in India.

In Japan, Apple is the only foreign brand that has good sales.

What? Sony is still a powerhouse, Xperia is just a side project now. They keep it because if they do find something that flies off the shelves then they can quickly pounce on the market even if it is a short term hype like 5G. The problem is that the Xperia division have not got the formula right and on top of that, even if they top trumped everyone out there and made the most amazing device it may not be a guaranteed sale. It is what it is. This high price low numbers strategy is hurting the consumer more than anyone.

I've always said that the tools are there for success but some of the personnel and decision making has been poor. A friend was telling me that some XZ2 people were arrogant about the 3.5mm jack believing that 'the XZ2 is so good that owners will definitely buy a set of expensive Sony headphone' but the truth is that even though the Sony headphones are amazing these days, loss of the 3.5mm jack cheesed a lot of people off and the XZ2 just isn't good enough. XZ3 isn't good enough either, I bit it has whack sales figures.

I recently got myself a Withings Sport HR, selling my Huawei watch now. As much as I like the Huawei the battery life is not good and while on par with most smart watches it is annoying to charge each day. Also, I have to keep the screen off so it is active by gesture if I want to see the time. My £20 Casio is better at telling the time so what is the point of paying £200 for a watch that you have to compromise so much. My new watch gives a month of battery, tells the time and takes care of notifications. The point is that Sony needs to cut the crap and compromises on their devices. If they gave me the same Z3 Compact with updated internals I'd buy that tomorrow because it was awesome, iPhone SE owners are saying the same thing because these are great 'jack of all trades' devices that were consumer friendly and appealing to everyone on so many levels.

I hate this new CEO.

Tech company like Sony can not be just services like streaming of movies and music.

PlayStation brings tons of money. Months ago they were celebrating how many units sold since PS1.
Imaging Division is very powerful, they create the best sensors on Earth, even Nikon use them.
They made A9 targeting Tokyo games, I think they will bring A9ii in late 2019 so people can have it before the games.
A6000 is the top seller among APS-C while A7iii is top seller among FF Mirrorless.
They have CrystalLED for giant screens for business use.

IP and Business Solution is the most profitable for company. I don't think SONY will have any big negative movement like dropping a sub-division before the 2020 games. That will be the golden time for recovery in Japan.

Those leaks are from Reddit so the credibility will be pretty low I think.

Just make a few changes to the design
Bump up the battery capacity
Make the device more compact and lighter

And bring back the 3.5mm jack

Also sony needs competitive pricing.. When compared to Samsung and apple

Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi may use imx586.
Is Sony going to stick with 400 and rely on software improvements.?

I would feel satisfied with dual 1/1.9" RGB 23MP and 16MP monochrome.

I hope sony picks up the pace and brings more innovative technology to mobile phones... as much as i hope for this, i'm fairly sure sony will continue to play catch up. makes me sad.

if the leaks about samsung's "work in progress" are true, they are gonna blow away everyone if they are first to market with it. in screen fps, in screen camera/sensor array, acoustic surface, and new haptic tech.

these are all things sony should be doing. they already have the tech for acoustic surface, they just need to shrink it down to mobile size. they have haptic tech too, which just needs to be implemented in a manner that's useful and innovative instead of just a rumble pack. the other two, i'm not sure if they have in house tech for it, but they could figure it out. they need to leap frog other manufacturers in tech and features and be first to market in these CRITICAL areas in order to stand out and make some money.

lastly, they need better carrier relations. As good as a device may be, if carriers don't sell them, market them, etc. they just don't sell as well. at least here in the states, if it's not on one of the major carriers, people don't even know about it.

i want sony to succeed. i want my next phone to be a sony again. but i want good reasons to have one beyond my love for sony.

Just heard something interesting.

Japanese carrier, more specifically docomo is already in talk with SMC about next flagship xperia.

This is very unusual because with the current pattern of release cycle that 1 flagship as summer model and another as winter model, they won't start talking before MWC.

So this fact probably indicate that next flagship xperia (XZ4? XZ3 Pro/Plus etc?) will be released much earlier than we

Or docomo releases mid range which are likely to be XA3/XA3 Ultra

BTW, I've been a long time read-only user of this forum but finally I decided to create account.
