the company tht profit the most from K700 and S65 (siemens) will be ......ta ta Ericsson since both phone might be using their platform.

I can't help to put this assumption in since both phone suppose the same thing and even the keypad layout look the same.

Plus the design of S65 remind me of....T610/T630.....seem like Siemens really losing in their industrial design (as usual).

The only features which is better than K700 is the camera resolution.
Its just like when we compare S55 with T68i with one supporting java/polyphonic while one didn't.

See the white paper.

I dont think K700 lacks memory - because I dont think its meant to be an mp3 player as such - the mp3 playing ability is meant for ringtones - and 30sek mp3 at 96kbs encoding dont take up much space. I think the 32mb memory is meant as support for videorecording, games, ringers, themes, pictures, etc. and looking at the phone as an upgrade of the T610/T630 series at a reasonable midrangeprice - I beleive the overall specs are simply outstanding - no other phone at this price from any company delivers equal specs overall. If you need an mp3 player better get a dedicated cheap flashrambased mp3 player. Or toss in that extra money and get the S700 that supports duo sticks

As TheRealSpawn said it is for sure not ment to work as MP3-player
There will be a T650 with rumoured MSD Pro for that.

The white paper makes very interesting reading. One bit I'm interested in is the following:

My Friends (new address book) - from white paper
"The application also enables you to view the 'presence', or availability of the contacts in My friends. You can easily and quickly find out whether they are in a meeting or free to speak to you. You can then choose how you wish to contact them. "

I'm trying to imagine how this is possible - it's essentially like a "buddy list" in your fave instant messaging app (AOL IM, MSN messenger, yahoo chat, etc). No mention of an IM app is mentioned, although they do talk about "chatting" with another person, although I assumed this was just a historical SMS that showed the remarks that had gone before.

To tell whether a friend is "available" - technically that surely must be a GPRS service as it needs constant updating, and even so what mechanism would it use to determine if someone is online? a chat prog like AOL IM? detecting the profile that the friends phone is using (normal, meeting, etc)? is that even possible?

Is this part of the GPRS spec that you can tell if another address is turned on and what proflile the're using (in which case - apart from privacy issues - it would be limited to friends with GPRS services)? Is this a proprietry SE or K700 thing (further limiting which friends you could tell the status of)? SyncML?

I love the idea, and think it's killer if your phone could act in the same way as your buddy list, especially if it can show people's custom status, eg "gone to gym - back at 6" - but I'm left with loads of questions as to how this is possible.

any ideas?

I'm prepared to last out a little longer with my 68i as the K700 looks like a real leap over the t630.

Hi,

Does anyone know when Siemens S65 is going to hit the market? Q2? Q4?

If it is Q2 then I think K700 will have a tough competitor. If it is later I think SE will sell _lots_ of units before Siemens can catch up...

I read Q3 somewhere, but I'm not sure. What I have read S65 seem to be targeting the business market and hence will not compete with K700 directly (K700 is expected to be cheaper). We will see next week when it will be released. For me, K700 looks better.
