@moogoo

It was the Chinese FCC that approved it in August.

@monkeypantz and anybody else importing the Z1 (C6903) into the US

FCC FORM 740

PART 1

FIRST ROW:
Date of Entry: leave blank (fedex should fill this)
Entry Number: leave blank (fedex should fill this)
Port of Entry: leave blank (fedex should fill this)
Harmonized Tariff Number: leave blank
Quantity: 1

SECOND ROW
Device Model/Type Name: C6903
Trade Name: Xperia Z1
FCC ID: PY7PM-0450
Description of Device: Smartphone

THIRD ROW
Manufacturer Name/Address: Sony Mobile Communications (should be enough, since they can view address using FCC ID)
Cosignee: leave blank
Importer: your information

FOURTH ROW
Print your name, sign your name, date it

PART 2
Put an 'X' next to Row #1 "The FCC has issued a grant of equipment authorization for the FCC ID above"

That's it! You should have no issues getting your Z1 from FEDEX after that as it is clearly approved by the FCC for use in the US. Hope this helps anyone having to deal with this.

repost from the rumors thread, heh.

Interesting. I was just using the Digital Versus comparison tool where they compare shots from the iPhone 5S, Lumia 1020, Galaxy S4, LG G2, Xperia Z1 and iPhone 5. Here's a direct link:

http://www.digitalversus.com/[....]bf801e6cea6d2b250cec8eeba4cdfb

I suggest scrolling down to the category on the left for Detail 100%. You can grab any of the samples and move them about to see anywhere on the larger sample test image. For the majority of the image, it actually seems like the Z1 resolves more detail than all of the other phones except for the Lumia. It does get soft in the top and bottom left corners, but looking at most of the image in the center and the right, it seems to produce better results than the others. There is a certain level of noise present on the Z1s shot overall though and it's barely noticable in some areas and very noticable in others. Hopefully these are the little parts that'll be fixed in the big camera update that's coming

Don't know what they have done in the 534 firmware update but they have just taken the battery life up a few notches - I had no complaints before but it is very very much better, I would call it substantial

Camera quality is very bad. Specs 1/2.3" it should be killing, but overcompression and noise suppression overkill mean images turn out worse than my SGS2 could previously output. If this is the best sony has to offer, then damn.

The camera is not as good as I was hoping for as has been well documented in reviews. I'm sure this is a software compression issue and sony will fix it in time

My first use of the camera produced shockingly poor photos, full of grain and soft post-processing. This came as a huge shock to me and really put a downer on my shiny new phone.

The camera really should perform better. I feel like i'm getting worse pictures than with my Desire X.

Not a single positive camera impressions from Z1 early adopters? Shocked!

Cheers,
Miki

It's extremely interesting you intentionally choose all the negative
comments. The first few comments in XperiaBlog praises it. Try haeder. Maybe Samsung is not paying you enough.
