found an app that is not only convenient for users but also makes a lot of sense especially in terms of safety. This is an app that's worth every penny

Sadly not Mij, you can only lock the whole BB, it's all or nothing!

Not off hand unfortunately. Even using google you'd have to dig. However if you want your BB to be 'Girlfriend Proof' then you'll need to either try contacting a very well experienced J2ME/J2EE java coder.
I May have spoken too soon. That said I have no clue if the API to do so is open to developers or even in-house corporate coding. To the best of my knowledge ONLY WM or Symbian OS' allow this ability. I DO recall some app that does this last year I just cannot recall the name of it.

^ It bothers me there is no SECURITY section on BBAPPWORLD - on a device so reputably to be secure that after unlocking it the minimum screen/backlit is 30seconds leaving it open to be used. Let's say your on the subway and are using your BB and put it in your pocket thinking it'll lock in 30seconds. Its now your stop and you get up off the seat and the device is STILL unlocked, you walk out doors close and already its in someone's hands browsing all your information. It'll take a minimum 10-15mins before you call your company to remote wipe your device. If you're on BIS without hosted Exchange/Domino service .... lol welcome to the world of 30mins customer service and your device is open and cannot be remote wiped.
BINGO! I found it!
Advanced Device Locks

unfortunately it costs
$15.99 USD.
PS: Btw, this is the SAME quality application that I mentioned is available on WindowsMobile (WM) or Symbian (UIQ2.2/3.0/S60/and soon Symbian^2).

Is there any software that I can install on my PC that will allow me to update calender and phonebook entries?
Seems as though this is not available on the Desktop Manager.
