How about you try to compare quality of NEX 5N? This is the best APS C sensor.

In contrast to my previous post, after reading this site

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/category/miscellaneous/

I just learned that Nikon, FujiFilm, Pentax were just tuning the Sony sensor to bring out its true potential and in the case of Nikon, combined with their Image Processing algorithm, the likes of D3x/D4/D800 can outshine even Sony's very own products. so that concludes the fact that Sony makes the best Sensors, only hurt by their lack of experience in fine tuning

Not just with NEX 7
The new Sony 36 MP sensor that is used in Nikon D800 (and soon in a Sony full frame Alpha) is getting higher scores than any other sensor before it. I am talking about the sensor quality, not the Nikon camera itself.

Next year onwards we should start seeing better camera performance from Sony phones when Sony electronics lets its cybershot team work with xperia team to improve the camera performance on its smartphones.

Honestly I'd prefer the alpha/NEX team rather than cybershot team (assuming they have different experts specializing at each department) cybershots cameras are typically worse in high ISO shots than competing Canon Elph/Ixus/powershots, or even Olympus, but i'm very much impressed that Sony really made extremely useful innovations with their cameras, first they brought the first APS-C CMOS sensor (the good days of DSC-R1), Back-Illuminated-Sensor (HX1), then there's 10fps burst, sweep panorama and handheld twilight(which is outstanding) which were adapted by other competing camera manufacturers in Japan/Korea.

@randomuser: even though I never knew D800's sensor is made by Sony, but by looking back at D3x's days, I could assume the same thing happened with the new Nikon flagship, great sensor + Nikon's unmatched image processing really made that DSLR a leader at least when considering price/performance since I know there exists the ultra expensive higher resolution full frame cameras that I don't really cared about

It's a problem with Sony in general. Period. Their sensor engineering is top-notch (their 16MP APS-C is one of the best sensors on the market currently), but their JPEG processing is atrocious. Even the JPEGs from their ILCs aren't as good as they could be.

Do you remember what Sony did to the wonderful Minolta?

I love Nikon and would love them to be on their own for as long as they can.

Agreed. We don't need a new Minolta
Plus, we can see how confusing is the placement of Sony's products, be it cameras, cell phones, TVs... While Nikon have clear differences between their different classes of cameras.

Bond movies are usually (read always) released around November time and they usually show all the Sony phones from that year (I guess it's a Sony studios movie), BUT filming will have been pretty much finished already so I wouldn't expect the very newest handsets to appear, first half handsets yes and maybe they managed to get a proto GX. Often the girl(s) and the good guys get two or three handsets between them, bad guys get nothing.

My guess is Xperia P for the girl and GX for Bond.

SONY success in cameras is because of buying Minolta.
I love Minolta, but I feel their presence in Sony even in their present days cameras.
If it wasn't for Minolta I doubt that Sony would reach the top so fast.

Otherwise I agree, no need to buy Nikon, competition is good for us consumers.
And hopefully soon Sony phones will be back at the top, where Sony Ericsson deserved to stay.
Not in sales, but in innovation and awesomeness as in 2005-2006.
