Let's put it this way, actually RX100 (at $650) is more expensive than NEX-F3($600). So I guess you'd say Sony should stop producing that entry level NEX camera as it will cannibalize the sales of RX100? smartphones are vastly different from digital cameras of this caliber so Sony shouldn't be concerned about internal competition as the two devices cater different crowds. So based on the current trend of smartphones today they can and will never offer proper full-resolution zoom, can barely offer Xenon Flash, and can't have proper on-chip post-processing as efficient and as good as the ones seen from this camera.

true. but the point is if they put everything that's in the RX100 into a smartphone.
If i had a choice of a device that has all the features of the RX100 and can be a great android smartphone too, i'd go with the phone.
it won't happen though, now or possibly ever.

Actually the camera comparison on PhoneArena involving Xperia S and the rest of the current(and arguably the best) 8mp shooting smartphones (that includes the Sony exmor equipped Samsung Galaxy SIII) had left most of its readers a very good impression on how Xperia S's camera performs. none of the 8mp competitors can match the details it offered on still image. so at least among android phones Sony is the photography king. video quality is another issue though.

Well, it is expected for the Xperia S to have more detail as it would be a great shame if the 8mp phones beat the Xperia S with 4 more mega pixels.

Well actually all the phones in that shootout use Sony sensors
. The Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S3, Iphone 4s all use Sony sensors.
And of course Xperia S too LOL

you should find faces out of BIG NOISES .... even my 3.2 mp Galaxy tab 7 snaps better
camera was bad ...now has become superior !
