Funny, I've never had any serious problems with Internet over CDMA. Maybe that's what we should be using for serious work? Smartphones with Internet connectivity through CDMA?

@seunosewa: What you need is EDGE/3G... Maybe theaforementioned will be superceded by WiMax... I know you're asking yourself: When are we getting these technologies? Everything rests on the shoulders of the politicians, faster communications will make Nigeria more productive and this should be the main motivation, not greed for licence fees. @seun: Well, I have had plenty of problems with CDMA and also know a couple of others who have. I have since ditched my Multi-links line. It stopped transferring data - and Multilinks kept billing me. Call after call, and all I got was "Our engineers/technicians have been notified and will come over". The last time I checked, they never showed up. The box is gathering dust in a corner in my office now.

I know people with problems on MTS 1st Wireless, XPT and Reltel.

@brix: I think its basically an issue with its roots in service delivery, not really platform-dependent. In other words, even if we get 3G or WiMAX or whatever, we will continue to experience these problems - unless and except we overhaul our entire service culture and make sure that we deliver on promises regardless of what.

@AYA: Can't these service providers be held to account? This message was posted from a K700i

I am sure that they can. Unfortunately, the average Nigerian is not bothered to "rock the boat". That may include me seeing I didn't take up Multi-links. But then, I am presently taking on Globacom. I intend to trigger off a consumer revolution of some sort, so wish me luck!

About the issue of reliability Globacom GPRS connectivity:

"... but I have never experienced GPRS faliure in my end (V/I & Ikoyi). Its beautiful using it here because you ask for the network and it anwers you immidiately, thanks to Glo." (Mario)

A lot of people seem to be satisfied with glo GPRS all over Nigeria, though the service is OK at my end apart from one time it stopped working, which AYA is aware of.
I'm begining to think, why is it only AYA now??

Anyway sha, I'm prepared to join the battle

Reliability has nothing to do with a service being available at one or a few locations. Its about it being available everywhere it should be available and at all times.

You should take a trip through Ebute-Metta, Surulere, Ikorodu Road, areas of Ikeja, Ojodu, Magodo, to see how reliable Glo GPRS is.

I was at my parents place one weekend and it worked fine. The next weekend its not working there. Another day, it works in the afternoon. I try connecting later that night and its not working. Same location.

That is not reliability. That is hopeless unpredictability.

You are correct about a lot being satisfied. But what you are missing is the silent majority that are not.

Everyone living in the areas I have listed above are NOT satisfied. Its not just me.

The list includes: Brym, Deeone, Tilly, Akan, and others I don't care to mention here. Most have given up, so they don't even bother anymore.

I am happy for those who are enjoying good service at their locations, but Glo should stop advertising "anywhere, anytime" online access when it is clearly not true on ground.

Reliability means it should be there and functional when and wherever I need it.QED

Well said. The advantage of GSM/GPRS is supposed to be the mobility, but in a world where the GPRS providers are not able to provide this "everywhere connectivity" it loses it's meaning. In such a world, Fixed Wireless makes more sense.

AYA, about your problems with Multilinks, we have a similar problem with Starcomms in our house. Once you know which PTO works in your primary place of business, it will work consistently as long as you work from that one location. The technology the PTOs use is not called Fixed Wireless for nothing
