I have flown with some dodgy spanish airline from malaga to melilla (spanish enclave in morocco) and even though it was the briefest flight ever I can not recommend it to anybody, as it was a paper plane with cloth wings

Vlammetje, do it! its a fantastic feeling, I still get a buzz, and you get to do the take off on your first flight and alot of the actual flying too. Flying itself is not difficult and prob 70% of what you learn is procedures and emergencies so be prepared for alot of ground theory.
My wife got me a helicopter lesson for a birthday present once and it sure is harder to fly those. I was also put off because they are much more expensive to rent. for example it costs almost as much to rent a 2 seater robin 22 helicopter which you can hardly go anywhere in as is does to hire a 6 seater twin engined fixed wing which can cruise at 160-180 knots (about 280 km/h)
if you haven't done it already, go for a trial lesson and you will only want more!

big planes also makes frightening noise but you just don't hear it as much when you're inside it
