you must of paid nearly 600 notes for yours then?!
No comment.
But let me put it this way though - if you get a branded handset with a contract look at the total cost over the lifetime of the contract - I think in many cases you'll be looking at a similar figure if not more.
In addition I already have a contract (same one I've had for years) and I offset the cost of buying SIM free with selling on the free unwanted upgrade handsets my network kindly throws at me every once in a while.

and the sim free handsets will be so hard to use and full of glitches...
as you can see.
get it on a contract with Voda and if anything does'nt work you will get the support, and even if you break it you get a new one
Where on earth do you get this from? Do you work for Vodafone or something.
My SIM free handset is pretty glitch free thanks. Typically with branded handsets operator customisations cripple and break a devices functionality, including introducing increased stability issues in itself. Look at Voda with the M600i - they even saw fit to remove the task manager functionality!
Personally I have never had any support worth bothering with from any network with any handset. I could probably tell most CSR's more about the handsets they supply than they could thank you very much.
Besides my handset (as do network branded models) comes with a nice 24 month warranty from SE, in addition to my statutory rights as a consumer under the sale of goods act from the retailer. I'm am in fact more comfortable knowing I'm safe if anything should go wrong than if I had to deal with a network as a middle man.
so if you spend 600 notes on a sim-free version then all your pay an go calls for a year im sure that works out to over a grand a year without the support of a network!
one word springs to mind!

Hi Guys, i recieved my P990I on vodaphone yesterday, i got it as an upgrade, and i ordered it the day before, best of its unlocked and the only branding i can see is the start up screen, otherwise no branding!
Or and it was a free upgrade, my monthly spend is only a paltry 25 pounds a months, suffice to say im rather pleased!

@stallion
If you have a contract already you use your SIM in a SIM handset and you can sell the subsidised phone. Or like me you can forego the phone and have a dicounted line rental.

@mykkk
The P800 and P900 and P910i run on totally different operating systems!!!
One is Symbian 7.0 the Other is Symbian 8.0 which is indeed compatible at certain levels with the previous but the P990i is based on symbian 9.0/9.1 which has been wrote in a totally different way to the previous releases... this means one of two things...
1. Any software wrote for the older symbian would have too many code breaks in it wen being ported to the new system meaning it wont work and the software would have to be re-written again from scratch just for the new OS... thats why there isnt a huge influx of software yet!
2. how long since they released the P900??? quite a while and yet TMS have ONLY JUST MANAGED TO GET IT TO WORK!!!! LOL... i rest my case that its not very close at all!

Firstly I really couldn't care less about network support. My network would probably be the last place I'd go for phone support anyway.
Second, my monthly bills alone come to well over a grand a year quite easily (and I have a few handsets on my account too). As I said earlier - the cost of buying SIM free is partially offset by selling on the "free" uprade handsets I can get from my network. Any additional cost difference is IMO worth it for the beneifts of having an unbranded handset which has not had functionality removed and been tainted with the tat that most operators put on them.
At the end of the day everybody has different ideas as to what is "value for money".

@voda_jon
I know they run on different OS's. My point was that the unbranding is "possible" out of SE service centres and "hopefully" they can unbrand the P990 soon....
I didn't say they would be able to do it soon.... please read my post properly!
EDIT: There's also these guys who have been unbranding the P-series phones for quite some time --->
