i think its 3 MB right? how does your telco charge you? by the minute or by the filesize?
Unless I am mistaken, being charged by the minute relates to "dial-up", and this is not a function of GPRS. Second, there are no operators that I know of that charge by the "file size" but rather by the packet, i.e, kilobyte per usage. Please correct me if I am incorrect.
no provider would charge by the packet. they would charge by how many bytes are transferred. packets can vary in sizes (bytes) depending on the protocol used.

He/She probably used the update feature in the phone to download it via GPRS. The file is quite big which is why it cost them so much.
can I assume this function is only available where the service provider enables it? where would i find such an option?

@sPank,
I see your point, but kilobytes/kilobits/packets, etc... are all data, with my point being that this is part of the operator charging scheme. Common sense would in most cases prevail with most people understanding this. However, thanks for breaking it down further.

After updating my K800i to the R1ED001 with EROM R3A011 from june 30th 2006, with update service software version CRH1069179 R3B019 I noticed 3 strange changes:
- The phone goes into sleep/standby mode much faster than before (too fast!)
- I cannot bring the phone out of standby moving the joystick like before. It can only be done by pushing any button. Annoying because if I push the 5 to bring it out of standby, it will write the 5 which I therefore have to erase with C.
- I don't see the menu to upgrade the phone firmware thru GPRS anymore (not using a computer).
And lastly but not related to the update, the infrared from the K800i is not recognized by my laptop although all the K800i drivers have been installed correctly. It still works great with my old T630...
Anyone with those problems ?

ahh i guess its different from your part of the world.. coz we are charged by minutes usage.. and yes.. its GPRS
ahh.. sorry i am being just a normal / ordinary man when i say "file size" instead of per kilobyte usage. although if you download a file and the download is measured by the files size which translates to your kilobyte per usage..
although i must be wrong if you think otherwise.. please correct us if we are wrong

LOL! Just found the part about the joystick and the standby mode. I must be blind as I went thru it before without seing it.
Last problems unsolved are the infrared not working and the GPRS firmware update menu disappearance from the phone. Thanks anyway!
