Hmmnn, not exactly. I was referring to M2 specifically, because only they can be used across the whole range of Sony products. But yes, that does look interesting
What is the exact reason for the memory limit for phones accepting memory cards (eg K850 accepts up to 8Gb M2 cards)?
Not today it doesn't: 8Gb straight from the horse's mouth.

I've updated my post regarding your wrong info.
Either way, this is off topic.
A200 supports memory cards up to 32 GB and you should never trust what any mobile manufacturer states on its website regarding to the memory card sizes. They only write what they have tested on the phone and since there are no bigger M2 cards than 8 GB at the moment, they won't state anything higher.

manufacturers always put their selves on a safe way, they know k850 can hold higher than 8gb...

uhh, 64gb ssd has NO moving parts and is 1.8" in size and uses less power than a regualr platter drive ... so tell me again why its not feasible when nanos have flash based drives in them as well as ipod touch if APPLE can do it ... well then i think that speaks to itself and SE should have more pride than that as a company than to let apple (of all companies) out class them in tech ...
_cost_ is the prohibiting factor NOT space and NOT energy.

First of all, iPod touch has SIXTEEN gb, not SIXTYFOUR. The reason no one used a 64 gb SSD in a mobile device is because they cost over $1.5k!
When w960 was announced, 8GB flash was cutting edge. I think it is safe to say the next flash-memory based device from SE will be 16GB. However, to be quite honest I'll take a memory card device with just a couple hundred MB over a device with internal flash but no memory card support, like the w960 or N95 8GB. The reason for this is that I'm paying extra for an expensive 8GB memory that will be matched and outpaced by memory sticks very quickly. 8GB M2's are already available, and within just a few months' time so will 16GB.

come on people what could you possibly do with so much space... you'd get tired trying to fill it up!
if it has 8 or even 4gb support, i'm happy.

This is a sort of off topic question, but I was just wondering: If MP3 players can have hard disks, why cant mobile phones? It would be great if the P5i had 60 odd Gb of memory. When you think of this being common in other devices, it isnt really so much to ask for, but it would make a colossal difference to useability. Then you WOULD be able to have all of your music on your phone, some movies, etc.
I really doubt that HDD or some other flash type memory will have vast implementation in future devices because its all matter of sales and economics of existing flash card business. Having high capacity internal memory will mean death of MS, SD and other cards. None of present manufacturers are imho interested in reduction of their card sales.

I'd never trust HD only.
It's great to have a card!!
If eventually your device dies/crashes,
you don't loose at least some data!

Older phones can't display more than 4 GB in "Phone status" menu, but that doesn't mean that if you've got a full 6 GB card, that you can only use 4 GB of the 6 GB. That's what this was all about. Flash disks is the future.
Now, PLEASE quit the off-topic talk about this.
