yes, and it's funny but when the K700 and K750 cameout, they also represented my "dream phone". SE just keep getting better and better. Their imaging phones are well and truly maintaining a lead over all other camera phones on the market, in all areas of operation.

@ max_wedge - except theres no optical zoom in any current SE phone due for release outside of Japan.

@ Arne Anka - i completely agree, why on earth do people need to store thousands of SMS ? its a point ive discussed hundreds of times on forums regarding SE handsets, yet there seems to be a larger majority who i talk to who wish for unlimited SMS storage.

Personally i cannot see the point of it, most sms messages are less than 160 characters in length, so they're not exactly a good read or worthy of literature awards..

True, but I guess I'm considering the global market generally, not specific markets. Japan has all sorts of gadgets no one else has, they are way ahead in consumer electronics, but much of it's not relevant to the rest of us. BUt maybe I'm missing something - is there an optical zoom camera for the global market?

EDIT: Big red face the Sharp 902, DUH! 2x optical. The 902 is a nice phone on paper. I don't like clamshells myself. Any idea the camera quality?

Samsung have a 7MP, optical zoom jobby. I have no idea if it performs well or is just a gimmick, although I suspect they are quite good digital cameras.

"SCH-V770 features 7 megapixel CCD sensor, 3x optical zoom, 5x digital zoom, 16M color LCD and TV output. The handset supports 4.7x optical zoom thanks to telephoto lens and wide conversion lens. AE lock, aperture priority mode and manual mode are included."

A drool-worthy camera phone, but I think this phone is only available on Japanese and Korean networks?

The Sharp 903 that everyone is currently ranting about has 2x optical zoom on its 3.2mp camera.

It also records larger video resolutions than QCIF, which is the K800i's maximum resolution. Even the W900i records higher than that, and it'll be a much older phone by the time the K800i is released.

yes the K800 is a disappointment with regard to video. And I stand fully corrected over the Sharp 903, it had slipped my mind.

I still believe SE camera phones are leading edge, but it's not an exclusive lead. So far, the K800 falls short due to:

1. Shit video given progress on W900 and other OEM's handsets
2. No optical zoom, therefore missing the opportunity to maintain a lead in the camera phone market.

Tbh, 2x optical zoom isnt really gaining you much in terms of functionality, so im not really bothered about that, but its the video resolution that does bother me.

I dont know whether id buy the K800i at this moment in time, simply on that point alone.

Well, for me the video isn't much of a turn back for buying the phone.

K800 is intended to be a photography model.. a video one will also come...
