sigh.
wow, what a wasted comment. They didnt use us to test it, they launched an innovative product (the m600) which unfortunately had some teething problems. they saw the problems and their errors, fixed them in firmware updates (FOR FREE - so they werent actually trying to eek money out of us) then when they got it right, they released a better product
and yeah, on the keyboard you just press the side of the button with the letter you want and it selects it. in number-only entries the keyboard will automatically enter a number regardless of which side of the key you press, and if you are in text entry you have to prest ALT to select a number, although double-pressing ALT will switch it to number-lock mode.
not that i dont want to see it really soon, but i'm kinda hoping it comes out towards the end of the year because in january i'll be able to get a contract and theres no way im going to be able to afford it since then. It seems the best upgrade for me, i just cant afford it sim free

I suspect SE have lost a lot of customers and sales because of the poor software on the P990 and initially on the M600. So it really is a lose-lose situation - they lost and some of us lost. With the P1i SE have the ability to win back some of their reputation. Of course, if they release Symbian 9.3 for the P990 I think we may think about SE in a different light

Or any M600 owner for that matter.
Been wondering about this for the longest time but never got down to asking. How convenient/difficult is it to text with 1 hand?

@Discord
As an ex-M600i user, I could tell there's not much difficulties than "normal" keypad to type with the "amphibian" one, even by single hand, though one needs to get used to it...

Cut it out dogs, i think it looks far more sexy compared to p990, and for what i need, the specs are perfect. As a matter of fact, i don`t miss the camera on my recent m600.
As for the software, it`s been told before. They do release new SW for free, so they win in my eyes as for customer service/relations.
I`m waitting for it, patiently.

having had a little play now, I really do like the feel and look.
I had one negative point which is the return button on the side which seems a little more indented that I felt comfortable with.
another member there noted the lanyard attachment which is a kind of little ball with a hole that protudes on the top part of the left hand side which will be unwanted by some people

Your version of events really is funny as it bears no resemblance to the reality as you say
"They didn't use us to test it, they launched an innovative product (the m600) which unfortunately had some teething problems. they saw the problems and their errors, fixed them in firmware updates (FOR FREE - so they werent actually trying to eek money out of us) then when they got it right, they released a better product"
Where the reality is they launched a range of UIQ3 devices that by any body's definition where in no way ready to be launched. A few teething problems that took the best part of 6 months to start being addressed with Zero communication to their users is definitely not great customers service either and if they had dared try to charge for firmware upgrades that would of been hilarious charging to fix faults what a classic that would of been.
They also charged top prices fro these works in progress which is why their value has plummeted so drastically so you are right they didn't eek money out of you they grabbed it with both fists. Now that they have got it right as you put it they have released the device as it should of been released 9 months ago so they can take your money yet again.
Hopefully the P1 won't suffer from the same problems on launch and will actually deliver to users what they have paid for, as if it doesn't i really can't see anyone forgiving SE this time.

@discord, yes its very easy to type with one hand, you just have to stretch your thumba bit further
@dogmann your opinion i have taken into account. however, every product has teething problems. unfortunately errors can be hard to find when only a small number of products are tested, and errors that are deep inside the software can take a long time to fix
lets face it, windows xp isnt even finished yet, but everybody uses it and its been replaced.
patience is a virtue. its sodding difficult writing an application from the ground up, let alone a full operating system, without some sort of problems. I am very happy with my R9A002 m600i (WITH the orange branding), with which exchange push is permanently running. infact ive just looked at the status and i have 16.1mb of memory free.
There is no way you can say "by anybodys definition were not ready to be launched". In my definition they were. You also seem to have no understanding of any sort of business principle. Businesses are there to make
money. The one way there is to make money is to
sell things. Sony Ericsson is hardly going to sell a P series in woolworths for 30 quid. It's a top end phone, expect to pay top end prices
Everyone does it, up until the n95 the entire nSeries was complete crap, but they still charged in excess of £300 for each device. Infact they still charge £425 for the bulky, slow, power-hungry, and frankly s***e n93. I had more problems with nseries phones in the 3 weeks i owned them than i have had with any version of windows since 1992.

Listen i am not denying that the UIQ3 devices have now got to a more than an acceptable level but to take the best part of 9 months is wholly unacceptable to suggest otherwise is nothing more than a joke.
As for the N93 being slow and buggy i really don't when you ever saw one but after the 2nd firmware boot up took 22secs whilst the P990 was still over a minute. The processor is over over 50% bigger and the 2D/3D graphics chip is the full version unlike the Lite in the P990 hence one can record VGA 30fps video and other can't. Lastly a most importantly it had 22mb of RAM and when opening and closing programs it returns most of it and doesn't leak Ram like a sieve either. You may not like it but i loved mine arguebly one of the best smart phones i have ever owned.
I had a M600 and hated it mainly because of it's speed actually that should be lack of also the screen when out in sunlight lets just say left a lot to be desired. I am nearly ready to buy a UIQ3 device again just waiting to see what R6 brings and delivers and then the possibility of a new OS later before deciding what to get. I loved my previous P series devices and lets face it £260 now for a brand new unbranded Sim free P990 could be considered a bargain if R6 really does deliver. I might just wait for the P1 as besides anything else that extra 64mb of Ram is going to make the most difference IMO.
