The internal shutter cover is there to protect the camera sensor 'photosites' (tiny elements of the sensor surface) from strong light damage, as an example if the phone was left in direct sunlight for long periods of time,
the external glass or plastic is there to protect the delicate automatic shutter cover mechanism,
Cheers,
Dcuk

hoping to see a firmware update soon...esp to sort out the flash problems...and if SE is in the X'mas mood, maybe they'll improve the softkeys (like lock it during calls so we don't accidentally activate it, or allow user customization)
*fingers crossed*

Hi guys! Im new here, I got my K850i (orange branded) yesterday and I have a couple of questions!
1) I have a mystery icon that has just appeared on my screen and i have no idea what it is! It is next to the signal bars in the top left corner. It is a picture of a person in a red box and has a red arrow coming at it from the right and bouncing off. i have tried to look it up and have drawn a blank on this and would really appreciate it if anyone can tell me what it is!
2)My k850i came with a m2 memory card in it which appears to work fine, however when i have tried to used my 1g micro sd card from my previous phone (with data on it, but not full) my 850 doesnt seem to pick it up. (when i press the volume key it does not recognise there is a memory card). I have tried it both ways up as i thought i might have just been having a blonde moment, but it doesnt work either way!
Also has anyone managed to video call on theirs yet? Mine keeps coming up failed!

@Miss L, that if i'm not mistaken should be the "Call Waiting" icon.

@ Miss L
Your phone is on 'divert always' for video calls.
Go to menu>settings>calls>divert calls>video calls>divert always and choose 'deactivate'
This will then allow video calls and also remove the icon you refer to.
Cheers

I have two or three questions:
It is true that the screen show distortion in case of pressure, or when you press the 'C' like the claculators and computers screen? Seriously i haven't seen ever something like this on a phone, I think and I hope it's not true because the scren is covered by a kind of plastic glass.
The File Manager is placed really in Organizer? I think that the Alarm setting was on a good place in the organizer and the File manager in main menu too. So I used only Ericsson, or Sony ericsson phones, but on the simulator from Sony Ericsson's web page I could finf it hardly. It is important for me, because I use more often the file manager than the media player. New software variations could place it back to the main menu?
And finally the flash. In plankgatan's thread of flash pictures with k850 he said that the flash is good, but it doesn't actions every time the way he want, and he reported it to SonyEricsson, and they confirmed something about this, and they going to fix the problem. But if they fix the problem, the software update via the phone how much traffic of data includes? Because in my case I should pay 1$ for each downloaded MB, and I find it a little bit expensive. If it needs to download 20MB for example, it would be much for me. But if the uprade would be just few KB or 1-2 MB, it would be OK. Some of you have ever used this feature on K850 or another Sony Ericsson phone. I have a K750 and it don't have this feature.

Some people have reported screen pressure when pressing keys. Mine are both OK. SE has QA issues here.
Yes, the file manager is in organiser now.
If you perform an update "over the air", then yes, it'll probably cost a fortune on your tariff. You can update it using an internet connected pc or take it to an SE service centre and get it updated from free though.

Is there a way to connect the K850i to the Internet using your computer (over Bluetooth)?
That way there would be no need for installing SEUS and downloading an update over the air wouldn't cost a fortune.
