Again, like I said: There's no specific mention of any specific parts that need to be covered except for the bosom... see what I mean by misinterpretation? I don't mean to disrespect, there are many extremist fanatics in my religion (catholic) as well, and it all comes down to the same: misinterpretation of the holy writ.

What you need to remember is that with the Holy Quran comes the Teachings of the Holy Prophet (saw) which is called Hadith in Arabic.

The Quran is the revelation and the Holy Prophet (saw) taught us how we should live this short life. The prophets daughter and wives also covered themselves up.

The Holy Quran says in Chapter 33 Verse 59:

59. O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. And Allah is Oft- Forgiving, Most Merciful

The Prophets wife "Ayesha (RA) reported that Asmaa the daughter of Abu Bakr (RA) came to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) while wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: 'O Asmaa! When a girl reaches the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except this and this. He pointed to the face and hands." (Abu Dawood Hadith)

This is just one of many quotes from Hadith.

@Peterkay Do you not think that people should be allowed choose how far they interpret their religion? Are you very religious yourself and do you take the teachings quite literally? This message was posted from a T610

These are your views and thanks for sharing them. My religion has mentioned the covering of the body over 1400 years ago and is still followed today, not just by my family but many muslims around the globe. Everyone has different beliefs and we follow what we believe.

Why dont the men cover up? Why are men treated as so holy in your religion, i dont understand.

I too would like to know. Surly woman also have “thoughts” about men. Why do the men not also cover themselves up as much as the woman to prevent the ladies from having the same thoughts as the men would if the ladies were in western clothing? (hope you know what I mean).

I myself am not religious although as a young boy was “made” to go to a Christian church and Sunday school, when I was older I realised that science explained a lot more about the creation of the universe than religion ever did to me.

@peter kay
As you seem pretty well knowledge about the Holy Quran, is it true that Mary (Jesus mum) was in the book, as I’m sure I’ve herd that she was? Just wanted to know

An interesting article (a very long one!!) about hinduism and women. The general belief is that women are treated very badly by hindus. Actually, some are...but thats not hinduism! I wonder why fanatics exist in every religion? Here

I think it may be because men are not putting themselves at risk from women by showing themselves. Though it does appear inequal, in a way. This message was posted from a T610

Very good questions indeed.

Yes, the man has been told to cover most parts of his body too. The man must not show below the knee and optional to wear a hat (taupee).

Hijaab for men

People usually only discuss ‘hijaab’ in the context of women. However, in the Glorious Qur’an, Allah (swt) first mentions ‘hijaab’ for men before ‘hijaab’ for the women. The Qur’an mentions in Surah Noor:

"Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do."

[Al-Qur’an 24:30]

The moment a man looks at a woman and if any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind, he should lower his gaze.

About me, well i know the full Quran by heart in Arabic word by word.
I pray the Quran every day and will do for the rest of my life.

Regarding Mary and the Holy Quran, well Almighty Allah has revealed a full chapter under the name of Mary (may Allah be pleased with her). This can be found Here

More on Mary (May Allah be pleased with her).........

In the Qur'an the name of Virgin Mary appears 34 times; the name of her righteous son - Jesus, 25 times.

The Holy Quran states in Chapter 3 Verse 42:

Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah hath chosen thee and purified thee- chosen thee above the women of all nations.

So Are Qur'an and bible linked? You seem pretty on the ball with your region (unlike me who’s not religious but only interested in religions and there back grounds).
