Well, when you open up a checking account, you get a checkbook. They also ask if you want a check card, and I always say yes. Basically, this is your checking account that can be accessed on a piece of plastic that looks exactly like a credit card. So you can basically spend all of your money in your checking account without ever writing out a check!

Yeah, that's right. I just never thought of the word "Debit Card" cause I'm just not used to calling it that. I think the older people (not to insult you if you are older than me. I think of my dad as old. Heh heh, sorry dad) are used to "Debit Card", and the banks came up with the new term "Check Card" to appeal to the younger generation, cause it sounds cooler? Maybe? I don't know.

They came up with 'check card' to make ppl want to move away from the old (and unsafe) checkbook and into 'driect debit' That way checks can no longer bounce and you can only buy till ou reach the bottom of your funds

I for one think it's a step forward, you ppl really hve to get over the whole cheque-book thing

Not completely true about that buying until you reach the bottom. That's how I got into debt. Apparently you can choose credit or debit when you use the card. I always chose credit, and when you do this, the credit card company (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) deals with the charge first, then directs it towards your bank.

So I racked up this huge debt because I spent when I didn't have money. Eww. Bad thing to do!

Hey Marga, how are you? And you Miss UK?

Ethan

my debit card came with a checkbook, but i never use it,yeah check books r ancient history. My debit card is just the money from my bank so i can only over spend by £200,which is a good ting.
