Idli is "fermented rice cake" (i think) sambar is the curry that usually goes with it along with chutney. May the power of google be with you jojo! I can't explain further!

@Janet- November hmm.. Carry woollens. I've lived in Terrai area of UP. Even if one assumes things to be 10 times costly there=> a 5000euro sari in India = 500euro/ above 25000INR (1Euro approx 53 INR). Think THAT BIG (a 25k worth sari) Range ONLY big city shops might keep (Benaras, Allahbaad)..
Will you read up the 'Lonely Planet' guides in the mean time.
