I recently though Mobilefun have started to play the Expansys game of charging a premium at release. Their N80 prices for example were very close the Expansys price - normally just a couple of quid less. They also were close to the Expansys price on the M600i too.
All the retailers must know that whoever gets the P990i in first will make a killing on preorders alone.

I really think the SE price will be similar to the P910i on release - around the £500 mark.
It will be interesting to see if play.com actually honour preorders at the price I preordered at. I have certainly not authrised them to charge me any more.

I wonder, how many of us have multiple preorders open at different shops for the P990i? Anyone got more than two?

@sleepyhead, i've got three pre-orders now. I spoke to play.com and they told me they will honour the lower price, they claim if an item on pre-order has a final price lower then the pre-order price you pay the lower price and if its higher you pay the pre-order price. The fact that play.com started with UKP499 suggests that this is the RRP. As masseur says that play.com is new to the mobile phone game and they missed a trick on charging more for the pre-order. To be honest my business will pay for my P990 so I don't mind the Expansys or mobilefun price.

I've placed a pre order with mobile-gadget.net and including shipping the cost is only £465.

Thats the lowest price i've seen.

@jah - I take it you have now added a mobilefun order to your Expansys and Play.com orders then?

@sleepyhead, you can never have enough pre-orders! Actually I still have an order with mobileshop.co.uk as well (which makes it four), but I'll cancel that one as they claim they wont any phones until August.

I am on holiday from tomorrow - so only sporadic posts from me. Have to see what the T-mobile signal is like from Wales

As the screen resolution of the P990i is 240 x 320 does that mean any java games which work on other phones with the same screen resolution (eg: Motorola E680i) will work on the P990i?

If so then I am going to start sourcing 320 x 240 games. I know SE S700 has same resolution too.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Looks like we're not going to get our hands on the P990i here in the Czech Republic until the end of August:

http://www.sonyericsson-shop.[....]-p990i-premium-silver+dp46677/

Still the price isn't too bad; around £470 GBP. The K800i will hit the market officially here during the first week of August, so we're a little behind with this it seems. Guess I will just have to wait a little while longer whilst reading about the first impressions of retail versions of the P990i from those of you who pre-ordered online.

I was tempted to do this myself, but whilst I'm aware that language packs can be downloaded from the SE support web pages, I don't know if the Czech market version of the P990i will have the correct "QWERTZ" as opposed to "QWERTY" keyboard layout. I know for a fact that the Nokia E61 does offer this support. Once again, only time will tell.

All this minute by minute updating is starting to sound like an episode of 24 (I get dibs on playing the Kiefer Sutherland role). On this theme, I've been commando rolling into mobile phone stores all over Sydney, Australia to see who will be prepared to offer me the first deal on a P990.

The resounding answer from everyone (vodafone, 3, optus, telstra etc.. ) No idea. Don't care.

If I were really Kiefer Sutherland, I'd take out the trusty glock and blast away at their vapid, uninformed little faces (okay, see the strain is definitely getting to me).

This leaves me with the need to purchase online. My only problem is last time I did this (for my first P900 a few years ago) I ended up with a suspiciously un-upgradable version out of Asia.

If you were me (living in Australia) where would you buy online that would guarantee a clean, international phone that works in my jurisdiction and has appropriate warranties (we have an expansys here but they are notoriously slow in comparison to the UK version)?

Happy to pay any and all transport but I just want to know I'm getting a reliable phone.

Thanks in advance
