I think they need something like that over there cos their whole life seem to revolve around the iphone,which in my opinion is just hype and marketing
While I agree the iPhone is hype, the P5i would never be released here under an operator. It's wayyy too good for any American carrier. The average American consumer is still stuck in 2003, cell phone-wise.
Though, I fully expect it to be quadband (850 Mhz has been featured on every 2008 SE phone and many 2007 phones in some shape or form), so in that sense it will be "released" here, though it will be up to people to import it.

2003 at best. Makes me depressed to see that it took so long just to get the k850i over here, who knows when we'll get the p5i. I think that the sad truth over here in the US is that people will continue to get the iPhone even after this is released because people will freak out when they see that this won't be compatible with iTunes, and assume that the iPhone is better because of that. It cracks me up when people ask me why I haven't gotten an iPhone yet, and I say that its because its not good enough and I'm waiting for the p5i. They look at me like I'm crazy.

If
has the gumption to come out with the next generation P series without quad band then they should lose more market share. I have been buying the P's each year hoping that quad band comes. It is now time.

@janke1
The thread was renamed, only because of the floods of concepts coming from users - mainly sealover.

Some nice new information from SE-NSE Home lead me to post a little research - I've mentioned it on Esato a long while back but was completely ignored....
There are only 2 likely TI OMAP cpu's in use here and I'm VERY VERY Happy of them. I FIRST mentioned this under my same name on Esato but was completely ignored.
This is the TI OMAP: OMAP3420 Processor
http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbu...contentId=30083
Details:
* VGA quality video camcorder and playback, up to 5-megapixel still image capture, music playback and 3D gaming.
* It embeds Imagination Technologies' PowerVR SGX graphics core (VGA Recording @ 30fps is coming wink.gif ).
* The OMAP3420 is software compatible with all OMAP 2 and OMAP 3 processors, allowing a fully software scalable solution. (so UIQ3 development and app cross-over, or quick firmware OTA updates shouldn't be an issue.
* Advanced Superscalar ARM® Cortex™-A8 RISC core.
* 65-nm CMOS process technology adds processing performance while reducing power consumption. (EXACTLY what we ALL come to expect in SE phones from the T18z/T39m to present day K850i).
So to some up, the meat of the OMAP3420 shares many of the technologies that are present in the OMAP3430 and OMAP3410 devices, including a 65-nanometer (nm) CMOS process, the ARM® Cortex™-A8 superscalar microprocessor core.
The P5i is looking good ... lets hope its design is better than what Sealover's magnificent design's have shown us - PURE sales worldwide, has Triband HSDPA (heck even HSUPA would be the BOMB)! Also A configurable LED indicator ... similar to what users on the BlackBerry side have seen would be VERY functional even with the screen backlight turned off/screen off - still giving users critical messaging and network / communications (BT) information at a glance; this saves power for app usuage. But no matter how stylish this can be ... its gotta be functional in the hand to use.
Personally, the P1i looks great ... but I think SE could've saved HUGE development dollars and only focused on teh W960i. Release that 4mths earlier - still perfected; heck even offer current users of the P990 (with original user receipt - and current phone bill showing the IMEI?) a 20% discount towards to the purchase of the W960i. This would be perfect in 2 MAJOR ways. Marketing folks. SE last 2 qtr results might have been lower without the P1i sales, BUT they would've hooked users to the UIQ3 platform giving them something to enjoy & ignore iPhone/iPod Touch, and also a functional phone. Secondly, they'd have more time & financial resources to concentrate on the P5i and it would've been announced last 3wks and shipping this qtr. Also allowing for more developers time & assistance for growing applications.
