Personally, the P1i looks great ... but I think SE could've saved HUGE development dollars and only focused on teh W960i. Release that 4mths earlier - still perfected; heck even offer current users of the P990 (with original user receipt - and current phone bill showing the IMEI?) a 20% discount towards to the purchase of the W960i. This would be perfect in 2 MAJOR ways. Marketing folks. SE last 2 qtr results might have been lower without the P1i sales, BUT they would've hooked users to the UIQ3 platform giving them something to enjoy & ignore iPhone/iPod Touch, and also a functional phone. Secondly, they'd have more time & financial resources to concentrate on the P5i and it would've been announced last 3wks and shipping this qtr. Also allowing for more developers time & assistance for growing applications.

If SE had offered the W960 to me 4-6 months back with atleast 33 % discount( a highly unsatisfied and pissed off p990 user since september 2006..paid $775),i would have definitely become a SE fan again and a Uiq supporter and never posted so many anti p990/uiq3 comments and reviews in networking sites and news comments and drove countless prospective p series buyers to nokia and htc.
But since SE did nothing like that, and i still, after more than a year later feel that SE CHEATED ME.
I still have not decided on my next phone..future WM looks promising..also got my eyes on iphone2...I will judge fairly...If WM/iphone2 wins,i will buy immediately but if p5 wins,i will continue to use my p990 for 6-9 months more and when the p5's price becomes dirt cheap, buy it(if no new competition come up). Will no longer be an early bird in my country.

Thank you Dr. Thug ... I knew that this would've been a smart move; but unfortunately SE did NOT feel obligated. I'm very surprised a class action lawsuit was not launched ... and if not SE is VERY lucky compared to what Palm is going through in the US right now.

But by all things reported thus far this P5i looks like it'll be the thing, but ONLY those with liquidable cash reserves they don't have to worry about will be able to purchase and give extensive reviews.

Yeah...its a pity that we p990/m600 and w950 users did not lodge our protest very well.

Read the other day in engadget that HTC touch and tytn2 owners are planning on a class action lawsuit againt HTC ...why??coz of some video playback issue in those phones.
When i compare that problem to problems i had in my P990,i can't help laughing.

(my comment/reply is the 9th)

SE clearly escaped a lawsuit.

Its a bit early to say but from all the latest info, it sounds like its only se's uiq version of a n95 and not much more. It would be interesting to see if it has a 3.5mm jack, accelerometer or 8gb of memory or similar? To at least compete with n95 8gb. Xperia sounds multimedia, has the qwerty survived?

As a minimum it needs to be as good a spec as the n95, a easy and fast ui this time and n95 size but thinner and better looking. anything less isn't good enough.

Personally I'm happy with the phones I have but it would be good to see se doing better.

@londonlad123
If you'd read more carefully, this new Pseries will be beyond any existing device in terms of hardware at least,
stop bringing here old devices which belong to a different market niche.
And Pseries is not any direct N95 competitior.

Here's some of what i speculate on this 6th gen P-series phone
-AM radio band
-stereo speakers
-Navilink based GPS reciever with Wayfinder Application
-UIQ 4
-VGA screen 16 Million Colors
-5 megapixels camera with autofocus & Flash
-WiMax
-VGA video or even HD
-Steel body

Provided that the QWERTY (Comfirmed at USEB) keyboard is a side slide out (ie you have to be in landscape mode to use it) then surely an accelerometer is needed to use it effectively when switching from keyboard to no keyboard. Just like in the HTC Tytn II, and many other QWERTY keyboard handsets. If the keyboard slides downwards, then, SE fans, prepare yourself for anothe rocker keyboard, or something like that, which doesnt seem half as appropriate to me.

Though the rest of your specs, Razec, sound great! I know we wont see all of those going into the phone. The ones I am referring to are 16M colours (not too concerned, 262K is great anyway) AM radio (Would never use it, though I hope it does have RDS for the FM channels)
Stereo speakers, UIQ4 and the GPS sound likely (HD sounds a bit much, especially when it has not even been released on the cyber-shot series, though I am interested to know the resolution of the video recording, which should be a very agreeable 30fps). Opera 9 will also be featured. I too hope for autofocus and flash, and while theyre at it, why not add bestpic and other such functions too. I doubt it, but I hope, like Beibei, Paris will feature the music player from the W960, or at least something similar, with full screen visualisations and other main features, but leaving out things which less ardent music fans dont need (mood function, for example). I expect the music interface to be good since a new UI will be used.

The first firmware revision did feature the Walkman player, but I am almost certain that it has been removed.
