I think any reporter should stop mention about that as SONY themselves confirm that there's no plan to do so.

I'm not sure it's discontinued because Sony is currently having some issue with their US store site. They were selling the A7r for $199.99 for god's sake..... Kind of annoyed that I missed out that mishap they had.

A solution for you is:
1. Do not wait. buy what is available right now because there will always be a better device around the corner. problem solved.

Which is why I jump ship and just got myself an s6 edge. Coming from a bunch of SE phones to Xperia T and then to ZL, I've been waiting for that "one" phone to replace my ZL, but felt that z-z3 was not a significant upgrade with speed bumps and minor upgrades here and there. Hopefully they make some good changes for the z5 to make me come back.

Highly doubt that changing the cheap plastic back to glass and curving the sides are significant nor revolutionary upgrades.

Those were the only changes? Significant enough for me coming from a ZL.

You made quite a big jump:

-From an average FHD display (even for its time) to the very best Display in 2015 with SuperAMOLED QHD
-From an average CPU to the most powerful with the very latest architecture (14nm, Samsung Exynos).
-From a subpar camera (even in its time) to the best in Android so far
-From Average sound quality to a phone with the latest Wolfson DAC in a mobile
-Then there's fastest Fast Charging, multi window, finger print scanner etc...

Whoever tries to convince you otherwise is smoking something very powerful or just a straight up hater.

^lol Tsepz_GP. I dont think Samsung Galaxy S6 family is anyway a big upgrade over S5.
1. The screen is not any better than the one found on Galaxy Note 4.
2. The 14 nm architecture is awesome, but if you compare Exynos 7420 to Snapdragon 810 running at full capacity, both SOCs are neck-to-neck at performance.
3. Saying it is has the Best camera among Android smartphones is a bit exaggerated. We all know that's not the case.
4. Despite having Wolson DAC, the S6's audio output is not any better than the ones without it, like Sony's offering. HTC One still unsurpassed when it comes to audio capability.
5. Most of the things you mentioned are not really ground breaking at all and most of them can be found in other manufacturers offerings. But you certainly did not mention the lack of microSD slot, smaller battery capacity and removal of ingress protection which are downgrade from S5. In fact, if you compare Z3+ with S6 on paper, Z3+ wins.

The only thing that is appealing on S6 family is the design of S6 Edge, which does not really serve any purpose at all. The regular S6 is bland and too big for what it can do. Samsung can brag about the sale of the S6 family but I see very few people with these Samsung phones in where I live.

I thought Exynos 7420 is the best SoC overall in the market atm. S810 just feel falling short due to throttling.

But I agree with other points though, pentile crap elimitate all the advantage of QHD even at the same size. Best camera in android? Not really, even fond of camera that rely heavy on imagine processing to make pictures look good. Wolfson DAC doesn't mean much, since my S3 I never found the sound quality any different than any other phones. As ndrsn said, you forgot to mention the downgrade from S5, where is water proofing, sd card slot and whats up with the battery life.

The conversation wasn't about the S5, was it? It was about going from a ZL, a mediocre phone even in its time to what is the best Android smartphone, the Galaxy S6 Edge, that is a great leap.

As for S5 vs. S6, I agree, not much diff. If he had a S5 and moved to the S6/S6 Edge, I would have said its a pointless move, rather get a Note 4 or wait for a Note 5.

Snapdragon 810 vs. Exynos 7420, no, sorry, even at medium capacity the 810 throttles heavily, the two are not comparable, hopefully the 820 will be a match as Qualcomm 800, 801 and 805 were brilliant chips, QC must stick to their own architecture and not rush SoCs.

Z3+ vs. S6 on paper, well on paper the Samsung has the fastest Memory, the latest CPU architecture with the more powerful yet more efficient SoC, Wolfson DAC, IR Blaster, Heart Rate thingy, UV Sensor, a Camera with OIS and so on, so on paper in terms of performance and extra features its still better.

Pentile means nothing at such a high PPI, that Pentile argument died about 3years ago, whoever uses it is clutching at very thin straws.

Higher PPI is exactly the problem with pentile even now. Admittedly I don't get to play with S6 to write down any final judgement, but from the experience with Note 4, looking at text or photos, lots of the finer details or small text are still smudged compare to LCD panel. QHD screen doesn't even look as crisp as they should be on AMOLED. Has to be a huge drastic upgrade for S6 from note 4 for that to be consider a thing of the past.
