@gov... which phone..the p800?
If so, have you set the phone to modem or pc connect mode? You can do that at control panel..connections...cable
Have you installed pc suite...if so when the pc detects phone and indicates it is connected, rightclick the wriggling line in your taskbar and disable the connected port, before you dialup the gprs connection.

y do u want to use the phone monitor? Can't you just load the phone's driver? That's what I do.
