Found some of the crappy screen phones in my local store, it is definitely worth waiting a few weeks for phones with the better screen. Size wise, the Z1 is pretty massive for a 5 inch device and I'm not talking about the bezel. it has a large footprint, eagerly awaiting news of the mini version. How are people finding the metal around the sides - does it get scratched and nicked easily?

@moogoo

well Z1 is a flagship, maybe I called the iphone luxury because here in Philippines, the iphones are the most expensive phones. As well as it is the phone that most women buy here as a luxury which doubles as their fashion accessory

Iphone 5 32gb Php 35,400 = 823 USD

Lumia 1020 Php 32,780 = 762 USD

Xperia Z1 Php 31,480 = 726 USD

Iphone 5 16gb Php 30,900 = 719 USD

Iphone 5c Php 28,180 = 655 USD

LG G2 Php 26,300 = 612 USD

Samsung S4 Php 25,280 = 588 USD

Those prices are the cheapest you can get them here at Ph.

It's only the 16gb Iphone 5 that's cheaper than Z1 but it is only 7 dollars cheaper, plus why buy a 16gb iphone that has no microSD card slot right?

LG G2 is the only one I can see as a competitor to Z1 for now mainly because of price and specs, but LG phones do not have that much good reputation here afaik, and updates are their problem.

@cu015170 - as vivftp pointed out, when i meant it will be "incredible" i meant for its device class, which in this case includes the iphone 5s, htc one, lg g2, galaxy s4, and galaxy s4 zoom. obviously, no matter what software magic sony can come up with, Z1 is never going to produce dSLR quality shots. It's not gonna produce high end compact camera quality shots. But, it certainly has the potential to put everyone in that list to shame, including whatever samsung and htc spit out in 6 months at CES. clearly. "small sensor" is relative only to the 1020/808 and standalone cameras (compact and larger). But among android flagships and the iphone, it is the biggest sensor

I see what you are saying, but I thought you were talking strictly about imaging, and not overall sales/features/size, etc. You can't really ignore any smartphones currently on sale since they are available to you, the consumer, which gives you a choice..

Otherwise, like vivftp said, its all relative.. you can pick and choose what is important to you and eliminate phones..

@ascariss

I think the NFC problem is due to the limitation on Microsoft windows. If I'm not mistaken, as of now, only browser is supported through NFC (you can send the web page to your pc) and not photos or others. You can try the NFC feature with Bravia. It works nicely.

Ah that explains why the browser opened up, hopefully this will be solved in 8.1. My bravia has no nfc, but I can throw pictures at it threw wifi, which is nice

I got around 7 hours off light use from first charge today. But I think I had WLAN on most of the time and didn't have power savings on either at stock 60% brightness (some of that time the phone was shut off completely). I'm new to smart-phones so this will be a steep learning curve. So far the background noise is not as bothersome to me now as it was i n the showroom. It is still there when I took mostly 8mp Auto pics but some pics outside during sunset of flowers came our really nice with large aperture and pretty nice blurred background. My wife was impressed and thought they were professional photos. Given the right natural lighting it is fairly easy to take good close-ups. My screen seems ok (got it from Handtech today), but I've not really played with the brightness. The dynamic range is very good. The info-pic is pretty cool as we bought some green tea cookies here in China, I took a pic of the bar code on the back and the ingredients and I'm not sure if it just copied all the writing from the pic or actually pulled it from a database, but it gave a plethora of details about the manufacturer and ingredients and the nutritional value. Hasn't worked on any landmarks yet as I just took pics of storefronts.

When puttting the front screen protector on I highly suggest to not follow the directions and wipe the fresh screen with that teeny cloth. I thought I should and that just made the screen into a microfiber dust magnet and I eventually bent and screwed up my screen protector.

@ascariss - thanks for posting pics! they screen probably could look better, but i don't think they are terrible? i think it's to be expected that such a light background will get washed out at a wide angle.. but i have no idea what it would look like on the S2.. so *shrug*

in other news..
