Hi guys, was outta town for a while, went to Ghana. Must say, that mobile phone services here seem to be more robust than in the three neighbouring west coast countries I passed through (Benin, Togo and Ghana) Like they say, you'll never appreciate your wife until you encounter someone else's.
@Egunjespoilagos: Its a deal, I'll call you first though.
Peace everyone!

LOL@ the references to your wife. BTW what are the services like in those three countries coz I would have difficulty using my cellphone in say a place like Naija where GPRS is considered a luxury.

Its official.
MTN is currently testing GPRS and would soon launch the service, though one is dissapointed that they are not launching something more advanced.

That's good news. Now I don't have any excuses for visiting Nigeria.

Good for MTN, though that does not come as a surprise. It was clear that they had been setting up GPRS.
As much as GPRS is "hot" here now, most Nigerians still have never heard of it. I went through Otigba (a popular mobile phone market yesterday and even phone vendors have no idea!). Now imagine MTN coming out with EDGE!!
What is surprising is that Mtel, the straggling GSM network that launched GPRS 2 months ago and has had little subscription to the service, has announced that they are building a 3G network in the next 4 to 5 months!!!!
Did I hear you scream? More info at
http://gosmartmobile.com Mtel cannot be serious!

@brix:

Are you kidding me? I am the eternal optimist, but some things o not just make sense.
you launch GPRS, and "no-one" uses it. 2 months later you want to launch UMTS?! Puleeeeaaasssssse...

Yes - and maybe another excellent opportunity for some people to pocket more of our money
