@mamba: Are they(Mtel) trying to extort money from the government with UMTS as an excuse? I think the best people to build such networks are not public companies but private ones such as Glo and MTN, I feat that should they get funding(highly unlikely) you'll only see them launching 3G in two years time well after MTN and Glo have launched their networks.

Mtel belongs to Nigerian Govt and anything owned by the Govt never works here....
They made a lot of noise about 2.5 and now 3G?
They've not even fixed simple problems with SMS and Voice calls, talking 'bout 3G?
Mtel is better off sold.
It's probably getting sold soon so they looking for ways to embezzle money in the name of 3G, pocketing the money and selling it after all....

@mamba: Hopefully MTel gets sold to a private company. From reports in the local press(South African) it seems unlikely that Vodacom will be buying it, instead V-Mobile is a more likely target for acquisition.

LOL@ the references to your wife. BTW what are the services like in those three countries coz I would have difficulty using my cellphone in say a place like Naija where GPRS is considered a luxury.
I cannot say what the data services are like, because I didn't activate my phone for data, but basic VAS like call forwarding and CLIR were not available on GH-Space which I used.

@amby: And to think I watched a SuperSport 2 feed this morning on my phone via MTN's 3G....have to say I've never been excited about mobile communications.

Gee thats something I'd love to see. The V800 seems to be packed. I was very impressed by SE having thought about almost everything in that phone, including embedded illumination for video recording in poorly lit areas. Thumbs up SE!

@amby & AYA... Yes, I totally love the speed of my MTN 3G connection...streaming is even possible over their GPRS network. The
V800 is quite disappointing because it's been optimised for the Voda network...which some times doesn't have 3G signal when I need it.
